Michael,
Very bold composition that I like very much. It's offset perfectly. The green at the bottom adds wonderful weight to the negative space. What makes this composition work so well for me, is that the slight arc in the tulip's stem, bending gently to the left, holds the image together perfectly. To crop out that green at the bottom anchors every line in amazing harmony.
What's most impressive, is the 30s exposure, and the depth and detail you still see and feel in the heart of the tulip. The yellow core, sneaking out through the glow is so very nice! There are so many details that I could go on and on about, but I'll leave it with the beautiful sliver of light on the stem, and the indirect radiant light form the leaf onto the stem... *perfect* So well balanced.
Well done Michael! One of your best!

Hmmm, I seem to recall saying I was going to get influenced by long exposure photography, after seeing someone paint vegitables with light.

That is a heck of a commentary. What happens to the main character at the end of this novella?
But I agree - this is just a nice simple shot that seemed to come together. I finally got over my laziness and used a tripod to get sharp images in the low sunlight.

It did come together for ya! ..and it's nice to see that you take over a kitchen like I do. Thanks for sending the image of your "studio". It's nice to see we use the same expensive backdrops, and bounce cards.
Just got back from a one flying to LA and back in a morning, and as an afternoon break, decided to review some images, and that tulip captivated me!
Honestly, novella aside, it's a great photo!

Ha! i've been found out. Yes.... i've heard of 'the force', and been known to whistle darth vaders' theme while walking down the halls of our new facility in the SF Presidio. :) been w/ ilm for 15 years...and as soon as work is don'e for the day/week, i can't wait to get to my camera!
