About This is my first roll of BW. Used on my first trip to New York. Framed with the original frame. Dated 1994. Whew, old stuff =)
I dug out this old stuff while watching a Feininiger book about New York in the 40ties.

Interesante perpectiva, Thilo. La textura me recuerda a una foto de los aņos 40.

Who would have thought then that in a little over ten years Minolta would be out of the camera business! 1994 doesn't seem "old" to me, but the photo looks considerably older than that. Is this a scan of a contact print? I can't quite work out why the perforations come out black... while there seems to be some light leakage into the edge of the frame from the perforations...

Hi Thilo,
I read your about for this one and I must say that even though this was one of your first images, it is still unmistakably yours. I imagine that is why you put it in the Personal Style catagory. It goes to show you, sometimes as much as we experiment, we never go away from our roots completely.
Personally, I find that I still like the same kind of images that I was first exposed to when I was 17.

Hi Roger,

the quality of the negative is not very good. So I scanned the actual image and then afterwards the parts around it.

Hi Andre,

well, I did a lot of "tourist shooting shots" (TSS) in my younger days ;-) So I won't like them really at the moment.

Ha ha ha - you certinly composed so well so the sign follows the building one side.... cool, like itīs protecting or being as a support.

great effect with the film edge included in the scan. fits perfectly with the modular ad! I see even from the begining you had your unique view of the world!

The grain and the tones reminds me a lot of images fron NYC in the 70īs...a time when this city was going broke. Even though itīs a modern high rise i feel the grittyness of it all. I do love your shots from the Big Apple.

Magnus

PS: I picked up my D200 yesterday after a long period without a digital camera

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 4/12/2006
Hey Magnus,

thanks mate for your words. Means a lot to me. I do feel the same about you regarding this picture.

D200: Well I hope you have the same fun as I have =)

Hi Thilo, I like seeing some of your older photos; I think it shows very well how much you have improved! (Which doesn't imply this is a bad photo, of course)

Strong and powerful atmosphere, captured in a relatively simple and slightly unbalanced composition, in which the unbalance only adds to the atmosphere.

Cheers,

Hugo
