Very nice composition. I really like the texture of the bars and the placement of the little girl in the photo. It seems a little overexposed across the bridge of her nose. I don't know why you say it's not a high quality photo. I like it.

Russell Love   {K:7006} 3/6/2003
Marilia,

you are correct, technically, the photo isn't all that great, but it tells a great story! Yes there can be shots taken with $25000.00 cameras and lenses, but if they do not tell a story, then they are for only a limited enjoyment only. Here you were able to tell the story of poverty and dispair of this little girl with a point and shoot camera and cheap film. Good work Marilia, and keep it up. God bless you in your work with these children. (8)

Later my friend,

Russ

Nando Mondino   {K:14016} 3/6/2003
Excellent and dramatic picture!

Hans-Christian Stoltz   {K:331} 3/6/2003
Like the other comments said, this picture has a strong story to tell! And that is whats makes it such a good picture. It reminds us of the fact that not everyone lives a decent life. And too often its the children that are the victims. Your image is a really important one. Keep on telling your stories aboout these forgotten children. somebody has to be their voice and that is you. Nevermind about the technical stuff, its not important in this case.

AJ Haselwood   {K:2198} 3/6/2003
This does have a very strong emotional appeal. The face can be burned down some to add even more impact.

Well composed and very dramatic. A bit overexposed but with the grain and overall tone, it works well.

Valeh B   {K:890} 3/6/2003
You are good! This is a very effective image!

Marco Grandi   {K:16680} 3/6/2003
Very dramatic photo!Well done.
Thanks for you comment.
Ciao Marco.

Paulo Granadas   {K:1741} 3/6/2003
WOW, fabulous strong image. This is one of those were we can say it worth 1000 words.

Harold Leff   {K:117} 3/6/2003
They don't have to be technically perfect to capture the moment, as this picture proves. Very well done!

Ricky Hirshfield   {K:832} 3/6/2003
Marilia. If you think this image is poor quality then it suits the poor quality of this childs life which I'm sure you help to enrich. Stunning photograph. Well done.

Darrin James   {K:3944} 3/7/2003
Certainly one of my favourite shots on this and any other site. Love it.

Marília Ferraz   {K:-4496} 3/7/2003
Thank you all for your comments.
They all mean a lot to me.
Marilia

kita mcintosh   {K:18594} 3/7/2003
this IS the kind of shot where i dont find the "quality" that important. Infact, it has a kind of journalistic effect which is very good, apart of course from her expression which needs no words.

paola f. casali   {K:7301} 3/7/2003
Impressive image!!!

Jay Dixon   {K:563} 3/7/2003
I rated this yesterday, and have commented on it on another site some months back. I remembered it was from a point and shoot, and that it had a power in angle and timing. I would look to work on the scan, because this is a truly special image, and you deserve to present it at its highest level. I gave a 9 as is.........Why wouldn't it be your best? It would be for countless many. J.

Javed Rassi   {K:8224} 3/10/2003
Techinically may not be perfect, there is some overexpoure on the forehead but I like the expression on a child's face, and I like your title as well, good capture.

Michal Wojciechowski   {K:1279} 3/12/2003
good photo with real story behind it, I'm gald to see high ratings regardless some small technical faults, at last the matter is 'that was to tell' - no matter how. Congratulations,
m

nathan clarke   {K:772} 3/12/2003
Personally think the exposure and the grain work well together, great expression as well!

Marília Ferraz   {K:-4496} 3/12/2003
I'm surprised and happy with this unexpected Photo of the Day honnor.
Although I'm just a snapshooter, it means a lot to me. Because I know poverty so well, I know what these children go throught and what tough life they live.
So, I thank you all in their name.

Marília Ferraz   {K:-4496} 3/12/2003
OOpps, sorry. Photographer of the Day.
Oh, my..

Filipe Palha   {K:5432} 3/12/2003
oh my . . . who needs quality when you have this feeling? :p
Your high standard! Good work Miss Photographer of the day :))

Andy Eulass   {K:13435} 3/12/2003
Talk about having soul, Marilia, this is the epitome of it. Even through those dull eyes, you can peer into the soul of this little child and that's no small accomplishment. Absolutely fantastic image. I can see why this means so much to you. All the best to you.

Bryce Hughes   {K:2957} 3/12/2003
This photo (i don't even know why the technical side of this photo is an issue???) represents something so much larger on the whole, look at that girl and see the innocence behind bars. It just one of the things that shouldn't be. Poverty, world hunger and disease. They are the terrosists. Why can't the world see? That we are the disease, we are the terroists, but we are also the innocence behind the bars that we put before us...

Rui Palha   {K:13851} 3/22/2003
Impressive!!

Jorge Jacinto   {K:4312} 3/25/2003

Excellent!

Aiman Nassar   {K:11961} 5/8/2003
Great story told here... I think this is what great photography is all about... perfect quality, would raise it to a masterpiece

NN     {K:26787} 8/27/2004
You talked recently about present and past. I wanted to see your past on UF. This is what you have classified as your best photograph - at the same time you say that it?s not a high quality photo. I like this contradiction - it tells so much about you Marilia ... you are not only a great photographer - you also have a very big heart! *hugs*

Miguel Torres   {K:3917} 8/27/2004
Very impressive moment you caught here, i dont know why you say is not a HIGH QUALITY Photo, i hope you meant in the grains.
Such a mood, that inspires me sadness, poor, needs, hunger, anyways this is such a wonderful pictures, it is a bit sad but i guess thats what you wanted to show us, how sad is our world.
Congratulations.
Where was taken?

Marília Ferraz   {K:-4496} 8/27/2004
Thank you Miguel for your kind words.
This picture was taken near São Paulo City. In my country, nearly 5 million children are considered miserables. That is to say: they have nothing. At all.
Abrazos,
Marília
