Good lighting - the pole leans upward on a diagonal from lower left to upper right, as well as the fire hydrant due to perspective.
The frame for this one was taken to include the interesting shadow (i think), but the energy is moving on that sharp diagonal and more negative space to the right and up would have helped show the projection. Also, if this was spot lighting maybe a slighter wide angle would have really popped these objects out against a darkly shadowed background. Or maybe that could be enhanced by masking/burn (GASP! AN ALTERATION!)...

GASP!!!
I was kinda forced to keep the crop so tight... i'm at the endge seeing what I didn't want to be seen. The top of the light pole was over another island that stole from composition... I do have a few wider that i should post if interested... but i kinda like it this tight... but I gotta agree... i wish there was better, and more interesting image to give the objects more space to breath.
GASP! ;)

Hi Joel,
Quite an unexpected change from the previous HI shot on first glance, but looking closer, there are also quite a few similaritie. The contrasting combination of colours, the unexpected angles and digaonals and crispness o the image, to name a few.
The use of red, white and dark grey to black is something that always creates an appealing combination.
Also, the angle and perspective in this shot add to the appeal of this photo, as invites people to take a closer look to discover what exactly is going on, the high PoV is quite unexpected and creates a strong surprising element. Very nice indeed.

Oooh me like... ;-D!! Great colors, super shadows, excellent composition (I esp like the way you've lined up that 'island' the pole and hydrant are on and the way the pole (the top part of it) and its shadow leave the center in opposite directions) and crop... well done!! Too bad my view out of the hotel window wasn't quite so interesting... LOL!! But I had a ball in NYC and took only a few shots... NOT... so take cover...

Interesting diagonal created by the white pole, the red hydrant and the shape of the curb make this shot somewhat worth looking at. The shadow going off in the other direct adds balance too. But to be perfectly honest I would have preferred scantily clad showgirls in sexy attire. Didn't you get a chance to shoot some indoor ladies?
