Location City -  Coega River
State -  EASTERN CAPE
Country - South Africa   South Africa
About Third in a series of rocks in the dry riverbed of the Coega River, Eastern Cape - South Africa. I was involved in a biodiversity analysis of the Coega river and riparian zone along its whole course. What really interested me was the variation found along the gradient towards the sea. Apart from the significant differences in plants and animals, it was interesting to see how the character of the riverbed changed as it find its way through different geological layers and surrounding vegetation types. This series of rock graphics illustrates those changes to a large degree. The red colour here is derived from the dark red soils of the area. The rocks were photographed in the shade of a patch of Cassuarina trees (exotic invader that migrates all along the river)

Uncropped image with minimal adjustment to sharpness, brightnes and contrast.

This is my favourite - if I had to chose! Joggie, the contrast in texture between the dry grasses and rocks is outstanding - as is the warm and soft lighting. A nice little accent is the bit of green grass. Beautiful tones!

Hi Joggie, once again, a valuable addition to the series. The things that make this photo, IMO the superb lighting; a very subtle touch, yet it does pull this image out of the ordinary. Secondly, I think the earty tones of the rocks and the dry needles work well together, with the green grass to add a crisp refinement to it. Less cluttered than the previous one I commented on, and again the introduction of a diagonal composition. Very well done!

Cheers,

Hugo
