Location City -  Coega River
State -  EASTERN CAPE
Country - South Africa   South Africa
About FOurth in a series of rocks in the dry riverbed of the Coega River, Eastern Cape - South Africa. I was involved in a biodiversity analysis of the Coega river and riparian zone along its whole course. What really interested me was the variation found along the gradient towards the sea. Apart from the significant differences in plants and animals, it was interesting to see how the character of the riverbed changed as it find its way through different geological layers and surrounding vegetation types. This series of rock graphics illustrates those changes to a large degree. This rock stood out completely from those around it. It seems to be different in colour and texture while it was clean of any silt, unlike all the surrounding stones. The "spirit-like" markings stood out as a symbol of the inherent life in this river system. Although highly impacted upon by human activities, this non-perennial river comes to "new" life every once in a while, cleaning itself from the human pollution and restoring its inherent energy.

Uncropped image with minimal adjustment to sharpness, brightnes and contrast.

I have always loved stones and rocks, and now to follow your pictures and read your words is wonderful to learn about them. This is a gorgeous picture- to see the colours and textures and to have the light on the "spirit rock". Wonderful.
