It looks so simple but is so difficult to achieve. Great effect and excellent still image.

Overall an interesting photographt, I think that the grain was amplified by two things, first mainly the long exposure for this kind of photograph, and the ISO speed.

Using studio lights to bring down the exposure time needed, to say 1/25th, may have helped out.

The specular highlights look good, although the saucer and cup appear to almost be floating. I think the spoon going out of the frame is also kind of a distraction, espically given that it is the round top of the spoon that is cut off. Perhaps flipping the spoon around could have improved?

its a nice photo, however i'd prefer to have seen the entire spoon within the frame.

Hi Roby,

You are absolutely right about the spoon! You may have noticed that others have said the exact same thing as well.

The reason that I kept part of the spoon out of frame is because it's really not a spoon at all, but a sugar scoop. I used it because it was the only thing that I had that was the correct size, since the cup is a demitasse. So one end of the scoop looks the same as a spoon, but the other end does not.

I just recently picked up some demitasse spoons, and I plan to retake this shot with the spoon resting on the saucer, as it should be!

Thank you so much for you comment, and I hope to post the updated version of this photo soon.
