About The little stony beach at Beer in Devon, England is a beautiful haven on a spring morning. I arose before dawn and wondered the beach looking for the ideal composition and ended up selecting this view near where I started! The sun's soft dawn glow has illuminated the cliffs and the inshore breeze has ruffled the deckchairs adding some dynamism to what could have been a slightly static image. I used a two stop soft ND grad filter angled along the cliff top to keep the sky saturated and an 81B warm-up filter to compensate for the blue shadows in the foreground.

Nice shot

Thanks, Barry. I had forgotten about using filters on the camera, I have become so dependent on PS. Velvia is a lovely film.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the patience to wait for film to be developed - I only have to make sure my batteries are always charged and space free on the disc.

But I can really appreciate the inherent beauty in your photo.

Cheers, Leora

Leora, it's a funny thing but I dug out my Fuji S2 Pro digital SLR on this trip as I need to use it for a friend's wedding and needed to re-aquaint myself with its operation. I haven't used my DSLR for about a year as I find it so wanting in pretty much every area for landscape work. Anyway, when we went for a day-long walk I decided to take the DSLR rather than my Nikon FM2n that I usually use as a lightweight carry everywhere camera. The Nikon doesn't need batteries, weigh less than half that of a DSLR with batteries, produces superior results and always works. I fitted new AA batteries in the S2 before leaving but after a few shots the CR123 batteries gave up the ghost and on changing them the AA batteries stopped working a couple of shots later. I spent most of the walk without a working camera. Let's just say that I won't be bothering with the hassle of the DSLR next time out!

That is a VERY good point, Barry. Thank you.

I went to a friend's wedding recently and wished I had my Nikon D70 as backup. I had some problem with the Sony battery going in and out. I am glad you reminded me of that.

And if I really want to be safe, next time I will also have my N90 and some film, just in case. If it was a job, you bet I would.

So I have to admit I was hasty in making such a sweeping statement.

You have my admiration and best regards, Leora
