About I scurried out to the aviary area when my wife called to show me how hard my cat was working - not to mention how worried my Pacific Blue Parrotlet babies were! :) (48mm)

OH MY! I love it! You've found my soft spot! I just love a good shot of a sweet feline! I love how he's sleeping over the little birds. Probably dreaming of a big feast.....

Nicole Stasiuk   {K:255} 5/12/2006
I think this photo is so beautiful.
The faint colouring is a perfect touch, and that cat is so beautiful and symetrical.

Laura Spell   {K:24080} 5/12/2006
Ha ha ha. That cat is slaving! Good light, color and details Doyle! Thanks for a chuckle!

Thanks Sheila . . . for this comment as well as for your response to mine. It makes me feel good! I'll respond to it and the questions you raise when I have more time (as always) . . . but it's good to know you're not the defensive type . . . some people want critiques; others want encouragement . . . not always easy to tell which is which but you've made it clear for me! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Thanks Nicole! Merlin is getting on in years and still does work . . . on occasion. When he feels like it. The cats have protected the birds and their eggs for years while leaving them alone. I'm not sure why, they just do. The aviaries are outdoors and everything from field mice, o'possums and racoons have been tempted by the birds and eggs . . . the larger ones are fielded by our guard dog. I thought the color desaturization helped the spot since Merlin is silver and black himself . . . glad to see it was noticed. I'll tell Merlin you complimented him . . . when he wakes up!
:)

Great "Petshot" here Doyle, all these delicious "catfood" (just kidding) and he's just sleeping. Great capture here and by the way, very peaceful as well.
Regards,

Klaas

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 5/12/2006
Thanks Klaas . . . I think the real challenge, though, would be to get a picture of him actually working! :)

That is so cute. What a wonderful capture. :) Andree

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 5/12/2006
Marian: Thanks, he NEEDS to rest before his next nap so he doesn't sleep through his lunch break! Labor Unions could learn a lot from this guy! And not to worry, he's never hurt even one of the birds. (We never tell him they taste like chicken)! :)

Thanks Andree! Kind of you to comment . . . when I have more time I will have to check through your portfolio . . . I saw some animal pictures :)

Very cute and a nice snap, Doyle. Could do with a shallower DOF, but that's the limitation of the lens, not yours.

Fantastic capture .love it doyle 7/7..deserves an award..nessa

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 5/15/2006
Thanks for the comment JC . . . I actually could have used a shallower DOF and opted not to. It's not really a limitation of the lens since (although the aperture was max. on this lens) it is not my only lens to choose from. I appreciate the sentiment though . . . this would be a personal preference issue and there is an advantage to knowing what other people think even if they don't think I'm an incomparable genius that would have humbled Ansel Adams! :)

Wow . . . Thanks Nessa. I appreciate the sentiment but don't think the UF "powers that be" appreciate selective desaturation. They don't seem to be big fans of photo manipulation either (or else a LOT more of your deserving photos would have won awards). Your image entitled "Love" http://www.usefilm.com/image/1074791.html, for example, was also deserving.

Hilarious shot, and lovely subtle colouring. I was going to ask you about it but read through all the previous comments and found an answer!

Jeanette

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 6/16/2006
Thanks Jeanette! He DOES work . . . (I think) . . . on occasion. Either that or he just eats and sleeps for free!

I missed this one when you posted it Doyle as I was in Spain at the time, I'm so glad I looked through your work today and found this masterpiece, its going into my favorites!
Your cat is gorgeous and I can see that he enjoys his work and does it with gusto.
The selective colour de-saturation is perfect for this as it really focuses attention onto your cat.

Fortunately for the birds here mine is an indoor cat (her choice not mine), given half a chance she would have every bird in town! As they fly by the window she runs from room to room following them, they have no idea how lucky they are…!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 3/31/2007
Thanks ever so much . . . I always feel honored when someone takes the time too go through my shots!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

You're welcome Doyle, the pleasure was all mine and I shall be back! ~~Grin~~
