Good eye for an L shaped composition, Ashley. I think the unfortunate shadow direction reduces the effect. The exposure of the shadows is great, as is the overall contrast. It may also help to clone or crop out the straggling branches on the right border. If you have a polarizer, it might have made the sky as dramatic as the tower. I like the photo, Ashley, but it is also tempting to point out areas of improvement in keeping with "Critiquer's Corner."

Pointing out areas of improvent is why I post pictures to the site, I'm glad that the corner motivates people to do so. I agree that I should crop the branches out on the right. Thank you for you critique.

Actually did you realize that Martello was the designer of this type of tower? The City of Saint John in South-western New Brunswick also has a Martello Tower.

Yes, I have researched them a little bit. I know that the British built these throughout the Empire (close to twenty in Canada) to protect primarily coastal regions. The four built in Kingston to protect the southern entrance to the Rideau Canal were not used for their original purpose because of weapon advancements that made them obsolete shortly after completion.

Thank you for your comment, I love finding the history behind the things around me.
