Very colorful one here Doyle, nice captured with the fast shutterspeed, litterly frozen.
I like the blue sky.
Regards,

Doyle

Thanks Klaas . . . the yellow of the chopper was a good complement to the blue in the sky.... Take care.

Hi Doyle, Good overview, but mind the white balance; it makes the sky look a bit unnatural, and you inserted a slight halo in the post processingg... Did you use CS' shadow Highlight tool? Or select --> feather? both can create that effect.... Needs just a bit more subtlety and fine tuning.... If possible, I'd place the chopper a bit more towards the lower right quadrant too, but that's a minor detail. Good shot, though, very well exposed.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo:
Thanks for the invaluable help! I could not figure out how the halo appeared . . . and of course, failed to see it until it was uploaded . . . par for the course. I suspect shadow highlight might have been the culprit here. I was under the impression feather was used to PREVENT halos . . . not cause them, but the post-processing is still relatively new to me and I did not use layers here. I have the original raw image and will revisit it. I agree about placement but that may not be an option I can work with in this case . . . though with the lack of details in the sky, I could probably just move the image and leave the sky where it is easy enough. Thanks for the time Hugo . . . a valuable commodity and I appreciate your giving it to me.

Hi Doyle, the feather is a great masking tool, and it does prevent a sharp outline, but it all comes down to the radius you set. I always use a feather, and depending on what I want, a very small one, or a large one, if I want to create a gradient. On a full size image, for example approx 4000 x 3000 px @ 300 dpi, a small feather is approx 5 pixels, and a large one can run into the 100's.

With the even sky, it should be fairly easy to both mask the chopper (on the full size image use a small feather...;) and move it around... or you could add the sky by sampling the lightest and darkest colour and use a gradient fill, don't think anyone would notice the difference. And tweak the hue of the sky a bit - it's a bit too purple, IMO

Cheers,

Hugo

Oh, what I do when playing with a new tool in PS is to check with the previous version - applying the filter, and then press ctrl-z a couple of times - that'll give you a great overview of the changes you applied.... Very quick and dirty method, but quite easy and useful!

Cheers,

Hugo
