About I was surprised to see these small statues of mythical beings alongside the steps up to one of the shrines in the great Mt. Takao complex. If you got past the rather uninspiring thumbnail you might like to see how many you can identify. I make it a round dozen...

A dozen it is! They are certainly more interesting and dignified than their Western cousins. Thanks for showing this off.

Best of luck,

Dear Roger, I have a similar shot and many, many with one or two together; I like these statues and I would like to know more about their meaning, what they represent, but....no material in English about the neighbouring shrine (Izuna Jinja). Nothing on the Internet either.
I like the way you built this composition on levels!
Best regards,
Gabriela

This is definately one way to decorate a garden. The way your composition is, it makees my eyes climb up and/or down the rocks that have the Gnomes on each side. I do enjoy this tour of Japan.
