About There's a shrine for just about every major human concern at this enormous complex... this one is where you draw lots to see how your relationship is going to work out. The young couple had done this but weren't taking it at all seriously. He was reading out bits to his girlfriend and they were in fits of laughter. Apparently the usually bland assurances were missing the mark... Iif you want the prediction to come true you fasten the paper to the trellis (you can see how many have already done so). This converts it into a prayer. You are also advised to leave a small offering...

Hi Roger, very interesting piece of background information and a good glimpse into the japanese culture, and the difference in seriousness and how people deal with it. Good reportive photo.

Cheers,

Hugo

Thanks, Hugo. Your kind comment is still the only one this has attracted. I am very happy with the photo-journalism approach, it seems to suit my style, and I always try to include an informative "about."

You are going to meet a tall thin man with black hair and black eyes...He will speak Japanese! He will not make a fortune but he will love you sincerly.
So much for my gypsy blood!
Good capture of a culture Rog
