Thank you, George. Your good opinion means a lot to me. I am not perfectly happy with the rendering of the colours in this... I am using a new film and am not quite sure how to get it looking its best. A rather "dry" look to the colours, don't you think? Or perhaps the greenery of the trees is slightly over exposed? I'm working on it...

I believe that there is NOTHING over exposed in this shot, Roger! ALL the colours are right, as they should be! And the composition is gorgeous! I like it! Is it Nezu Jinja? Heard it's famous for the azaleas.

Thank you, Gabriela. As I am using a different film it may just be that it's not "wrong" or over-exposed, just different. It's too late this year to catch the azaleas but it is DEFINITELY worth a visit. Avoid the weekend if possible. 'Nuff said.

I seem to remember house roofs looking arched if I'm not mistaken. Those have a religious meaning also?
I like the colors Roger. They look realistic. I know you mostly use in-camera crop and just want to say the composition is very good.

About curving roofs. This is a traditional Japanese style. Shrines and temples are often old enough to have used these traditional forms, which are largely uneconomic these days. It costs a fortune to rebuild one, and this type of construction is seldom used for private housing. So there IS a connection--if indirect--between curing roofs and religion.

Your pictures show Japan to be so colourful, appreciative of the beauties of nature, and respectful of traditions. It also seems that Japanese people don't mind standing in line and crowds. Lovley layered composition.

Dear Mary, I have stopped posting photos to Usefilm for a while. Needed a break. Your lovely series of comments reminds me how good Usefilm can be... very much appreciated. You are seeing Japan through my camera lens, of course, and I tend to select the more colourful, beautiful scenes. Japanese may NOT like standing in line and crowds but they never get any choice! There's just no getting away from them... But I must say you see very little bad tempered jostling or arguments.

An excellent perspective taking in the variety of rich colours and pattern like shapes. I love the way you have composed diagonally out of the bottom right corner. For my money.....nothing wrong with the exposure my friend. Well done to you, a good opportunity well taken.

Welcome back. I hope you are bright eyed and bushy tailed after your holiday. Nice long days in Europe at this time of year. We are too far south for long evenings... about the same latitude as N.Africa. You haven't missed many of my photos, as I have been feeling pretty "down" and not much like taking OR posting photos. I am wondering whether to drop Usefilm as my main photo site. I do have a digital camera now, so maybe that will make me feel different...
