hi, it is a glorious scenic!...i like the darker contrast level for the grassy areas which define the forms well and is a good contrast with the reflective water...i like that vibrant green in the BG,too....good proportion of sky to sea/land
On my monitor i see in the FG some odd repetitive markings (bottom right as viewed...jpg artefacts?
regards,gayle

Laura Spell   {K:24080} 5/22/2006
That is a beautiful sight! The composition is good, they eyes scan back and forth across the image. Colors and lighting are superb! I too can see some strange markings in the foreground?

Corleen Baillie   {K:32} 5/22/2006
Great photo,
love the depth, contrasting colors, sharpness and especially the coarse water. Certainly wall worthy.

Rina     {K:26519} 5/22/2006
Breathtaking is the word Hugo. Love the golden hues along the horizon line. Not too much fancy stuff in the sky which, in my opinion, can sometimes be way overdone (am guilty of that!). This looks so refreshingly natural. Very peaceful mood.

I think the problem with the foreground might stem from misaligned layers perhaps? It doesn't look like jpg artifacts or cloning misadventures or even camera blur. If you've masked layers here at all, then I'd say one of them decided to go for a wee wander ;)

Great stuff nonetheless.

Cheers
Rina.

Mohsen Bayramnejad   {K:21434} 5/22/2006
Another fine landscape shot in your collection, dear Hugo.
love the colors and its tones in this one...i also liked your composition!
Bravo and take care my dear!
a +7 from me!

John Pitman   {K:8287} 5/22/2006
Like this. There does appear to be a little blurring, maybe camera shake. Well taken. John

 LGreget   {K:18536} 5/22/2006
The scenery is indeed breathtaking.

There is a bit of a blur in the photo and I'm not sure if that is because of the 1 second exposure or if no tripod was used.

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Gayle, thanks for the feedback. The odd markings you refer to are probably the patterns in the wet sand. At low tide, rather large rippled salt flats arise, created by the flow of the receeding water. The image is basically straight out of the camera, imported from RAW and only saved as JPEG once (this version), so I don't think they're JPG artefacts.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Laura, thanks for the feedback. The "strange markings" in the foreground are created by the receeding water at low tides, creating an intricate pattern of ripples in the wet sand. The image is basically straight out of the camera, imported from RAW and only saved as JPEG once (this version)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Rina, thanks for the feedback. The image is basically straight out of the camera, no fancy PS work / layer stuff. Only a bit of level tweaking. I think what you mean is the rippled pattern in the wet sand (hence its reflectiveness) created by the receeding water at low tide.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Thanks John, I used a tripod with wire release, but it was rather windy that morning, blurring the grass. Guess that softens the grass a bit...

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Lisa, I did use a tripod and wire release, but it was a rather windy morning. I think that must be it; If I look at the original, the pattern in the wet sand is perfectly in focus, but the grass seems to be sweeping back and forth a bit...

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Corleen, thanks for your comment, always good to hear from a "new" person - much appreciated!

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
heheheeh... The thought crossed my mind, but you had me looking too, wondering if I had screwed up again somewhere... Think I could put it in my about, it's an easy mistake to make - I really began to doubt myself when I opened the image after reading your comment, too...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

very nice shot indeed...

can't wait till i can afford a D2x, love nikon.

roberto canepa   {K:7373} 5/22/2006
hi Hugo,
really magic light! are interesting the technical data: close aperture and long time at low sensibility..
many congrats Hugo, great shot!

Jeanette Hägglund   {K:59907} 5/22/2006
All those colours.....and nice land- and seascape view in sunset. I like a lot Hugo!!!

jeanette

Joggie van Staden   {K:41275} 5/22/2006
Excellent landscape Hugo. I like the 1/3 land 2/3 sky split - Gives the image a spacious and open atmosphere. The light is great with the different variations of exposure in the cloud especially intersting. The detail on the sand in the foreground and the patterns in the water complete an interesting and absorbing scene - similar to the paintings of some of the old masters. Great work as always(this also demostrate the sensitivity and capabilities of the D2X exposure meter and CCD very well).
Joggie

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Piero, thanks a lot, I really appreciate it! the crisp tones, and especially the early morning yellow sunset makes this photo tick for me too....

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi James, yes, the D2x is a great camera - eventhoguh it's also pretty expensive, I think it's well worth it, I'm really happy with mine...

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Roby, Thanks for your feedback. I used these camera settings, as I wanted everything in view to be in focus (hyperfocal), with a minimum amount of noise. That combination requires a low sensibility and a small aperture, resulting in a rather long shutter speed. Maybe I should've compromised a bit, as the wind was pretty fierce, resulting in some motion blur in the grass...

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Jeanette, thanks a lot, it means a lot to receive such a compliment from you....:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo i like this seascape shot well done as the usual my friend Hugo !!
My best regards
jo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Joggie, thanks for the feedback. I agree, I owe a lot to the camera for this one.... The thing that attracted me in this photo was the bright reflection of the sky above me in the wet sand, reviving the place. I go to this specific place about 6 times a year for the last 15 years, I believe, but never actually managed to capture it like this. You need to be there just before sunrise, otherwise the magic is gone (still beautiful, but not as spectacular) Unfortunately, you're not allowed to enter this part (de schorren) as it's a wild life reservation / rest area.

Cheers,

Hugo

Dubravko Grakalic   {K:24332} 5/22/2006
hello! again great work from you...my english is too poor for complex critic, but - zjis is amazing scenery with superb composition!

Moe Rabie   {K:4390} 5/22/2006
wonderful landscape...well done.

Randy Lorance   {K:24958} 5/22/2006
Hi Hugo, the ripples in sand through me off too until I read your explanation. I saw the blur in grass caused by wind and thought the texture being commented on must be choppy water, it isn't readily recognizable as water on sand.
Very nice peacefull landscape, The band of bright green grass forms a good horizon line separating the photo at 1/3rd.

Randy

Petal Wijnen   {K:47829} 5/22/2006
Wonderful landscape/shot!! Beautiful colors/hues, love the ripples in the sand just below the (very shallow) water... great that you picked that up, excellent crop and composition... well captured!! The early bird got the worm this time... ;-D

Klaas  Baas   {K:15115} 5/22/2006
Breathtaking indeed, beautiful colours in this one Hugo. What a slow shutterspeed, I should try this sometime. It's great to see such a beautiful peace of our country. We still have beautiful spots in our country, lets hope we can enjoy this for many more years to come.
Take care,

Klaas

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Randy, thanks for your feedback. Not so sure the ambiguity in the foreground is a good thing, considering the comments... Would you tink it would be better if it were less "controversial / more straight forward? or should I consider the various explanations a good thing, triggering the viewers' minds?

Cheers,

Hugo

ventrix drogo   {K:59593} 5/22/2006
I have not words. Superb landscape. Quite and great colors.

I like it.

Bye.

Meldijana Omerbegovic   {K:4089} 5/22/2006
Beautiful colours in the early light and very nice composition...beautiful image,Hugo!
Best regards
Meldijana

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Petal, Thanks for your comment. I go to this exact same spot almost 6 times a year for the last 15 years or so, and the landscape seems different each time; I have a few decent B&W photos, but other than that, I don't have anything to show for; the weather at that time of day makes the difference between a lifeless image and this (rather stunning) scene.... Lateron, the contrast between the grass and the westerschelde sand is just too week to get a decent shot.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/22/2006
Hi Klaas, I fully agree; hope to get some more shots of this place soon. Thanks for the inspiration...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Groeten,

Hugo

Markus Scholz   {K:22743} 5/22/2006
Not more or less than beautiful, Hugo. Phantastic landscape, worth the tradition of great Dutch painters (e.g. van Gogh).

>reply - Well Hugo...You shot what it was so it is what it is(beautiful inviting image). I like the dialog produced by the actual conditions present, more interesting than generic feedback. :)

Randy

Lori Stitt   {K:74437} 5/23/2006
This is spectacular indeed, Hugo. You can see for miles and miles. Clear skies with a few scattered clouds. Perfect time of day, such nice, rich colors. Also, the reflection from the sky on the water is awesome, silver blue carving into the land.

Very pretty capture, Hugo!!
Love it,

Lori :)

Gayle's Eclectic Photos   {K:91033} 5/23/2006
ahh...makes sense for the repetitive shapes...i see similar in images that have higher contrast in water texture,or if over sharpened...thanks for reply and excuse my eyes ;>...regards to Brazzaville..LOL..(i am in WA state but have adopted a new flag...hehehe)

Clifton Jones   {K:10604} 5/23/2006
MAGNIFICENT...........

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30021} 5/23/2006
I must be crazy for having the gumption to post my version, but I played with it without looking at the whole list of comments in order to put it another way. My motive -- just because the image called to me to give it a go. I love your version Hugo. This one offers some alternatives. I dodged the boat to pop it. I cooled down the yellow at the horizon -- just liked it that way, and then I gave it a different crop to accentuate the impressionistic land formation. Last, I pulled blues, purples and greens out throughout the land, sea and sky to connect them. As I said, I love your version, and this is just plain fun. Antonia

Hi Markus, thanks for your comment, and you flatter me with the comparison, but it also illustrates that those old masters didn't make things up...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/24/2006
Hi Paolo, thanks for the comment. I sure was an awesome morning.... The two photos that are to follow are taken the same morning, from the same spot, yet they are completely different from this one...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Randy, good point...:) And I really like those discussions, too...

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/24/2006
Hi Gayle,

No worries... it's always difficult to assess photos on the internet. It was great to see how many people picked up on that after you mentioned it, though....:) I guess people DO read the other coments!

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/24/2006
Hi Antonia,

Always a good excersise to fiddle around with the image. I think there are many different options, mostly differntiating on subtleties and subjectivities.

Interesting idea of dodging the boat; didn't know there was one in the photo....:) I think it's a bit of grass looking like the a boat..heheheh

Anyways, I like the thought, emphasising the wideness of the scene. An instinctive, natural solution, pretty close to the original shot.

Cheers,

Hugo

PS: thanks for your reply to my email, for some strange reason, my spamfilter picked up on it..

Roberto Arcari Farinetti   {K:177201} 5/24/2006
..Another in series, my friend,.. even if I am really busy I am able to find some minute for the photographies of the friends.. in this I see a big one green of light, very beautiful colours and landscape.

But maybe there is the refinery at the end?

best wishes

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 5/24/2006
Hi Hugo,

well, something different this time from you. "Just" a great view. But an impressive one with a great format and a perfect split between the elements. I'm wondering what the water looks like with the cripplings? Is that rain?

good work my friend.

Thilo

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30021} 5/24/2006

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/26/2006
A Boat?! Where? Where? I just *love* boats! Heheheheh:)

on a more serious note, I really think it's a pity this photo doesn't have a basket of kittens in it, because I *love* baskets of kittens too! But maybe it's there, please find it for me?...

It's just great how you tweaked the tone, you really made the beautiful boat stand out! Very well done!

Cheers,

Hugo

Gayle's Eclectic Photos   {K:91033} 5/26/2006
don't know how to tell you this, but the...kittens
er,ok i'll just say it! The kittens were zapped by aliens and the basket is now a hat on an alien's head!!! ;>

Did you call the national enquirer? This is shocking news!

ALIEN SLASHES KITTENS!
There is proof - they're out there!
Kambiz was right all along!
New trend in ET-Fashion - buy two get three baskets!
And more headlines that require an exclamation mark!!!!!

!!!!!!!!

Wow. Time to let this sink in.... Poor kittens...

Andre Denis   {K:55922} 5/30/2006
Just beautiful Hugo!!
Usually I don't like this much sky in landscapes, but you are showing me the way!! This image and the one after it really take advantage of a "big sky" look.
Andre

Gayle's Eclectic Photos   {K:91033} 5/30/2006
hehehe...good idea about the new ET-fashion and if we are quick enough we can be the first to sell these babies at eBay and scoop up! ;>

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/30/2006
:) If only we had permission to use this image in our sales pitch....

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 5/30/2006

stunning landscape from holland :) really beautiful and chamring :)
excellent

wish you good luck

Leora Long   {K:9693} 6/3/2006
As you seem to be a purist, Hugo, the yellow on the horizon must be from the chemical plant. We are used to unusual color effects in the New Jersey area.

This is a stunning effect along with the blues and greens.

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/3/2006
Hi Leora,

Thanks for the feedback; It might very well be the chemical plant's pollution causing this light, but the environmental regulations in the Netherlands are very stricth; besides, the light in this area is famous, and always very attractive. It's a series of large peninsulas in the south of the Netherlands, with sea all around, with generally speaking very clear and crisp sea air... The influence of the plant can be neglected, luckily...

Cheers,

Hugo

Mireille Heirendt   {K:7258} 6/4/2006
Hi Hugo,
You captured a great moment here-pure magic!
The strong green/brown yellow tones make the dominating blue not only stand out but also seperate it perfectly.
You did very well by including 2/3 of this amazing sky (makes a perfect composition) - I guess you know that I'm an absolute sky fan ;)
Am I right in perceiving another human being (other than you as the photographer) in the boat?
Regards, Mireille
P.S. I guess you missed the "almost never shining Luxembourgish sun" in one of my previous uploads (www.usefilm.com/image/1112609.html)

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/4/2006
Hi Mireille, thanks for the feedback... As to the human presence in the boat, I doubt it; as there's no boat in this image...:) You're not the only one to see it, though, and I actually had to check the original file to make sure myself...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Nilanjan Mitra   {K:12266} 6/4/2006

Amazing landscape shot, love the texture on the water. Nice~

Ian McIntosh   {K:38714} 6/6/2006
Had a neighbour from somewhere in Zeeland. Nice to see it. Marshy? Salt water Marshes are fascinating to me.

Bruce Harper   {K:5305} 6/6/2006
Very nice Hugo, you fooled me with the foreground, I thought it was the wind on the water that gave it the shimmer. But I do like the blue there reflected from the sky. Was it a cold morning? It gives me that impression for some reason.

Ferran Rial   {K:6724} 6/8/2006
"What a wonderful world", this could be a perfect title for this photo. You really captured a dreamy landscape, the colors, the grass, the water and the paceful sky. Great. Goes to my favs!!

Cheers,
ferran

John Loreaux   {K:85782} 6/8/2006
Hello Hugo, This is such a wonderful scene of the creek and meadows! The building in the far distance seem to be miles away! What a vast area here!
We have some very similar scenes right here in South Jersey. This is very similar!
I will be in the lookout for a shot like this and will post it in the future to be able to compare the areas. Again Very nice scene and compositon My friend! Take care Hugo!
My best always.................................John

Hi Karen, Good to hear from you again, thanks fro stopping by. Talk to you soon,

Cheers,

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/14/2006
Hi Ian, Yeah, this area is very marshy. It's a wild life protected area, and very beautiful. You can't enter that area, though. too dangerous...

Cheers,

hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/14/2006
Hi Bruce, thanks for the comment. it was a rather windy winter morning, around 8.15am. Good call!

I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I'll be around soon.

Cheers,

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/14/2006
Exccellent suggestion.... "What a Wonderful World" it'll be! Thanks! (I've entered it as such for a photo competition...)

Cheers,

hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 6/14/2006
Hi John, good to hear from you. It's definitely very vast, at least for Dutch standards; but if you look at the next photo, you'll see that it's only a matter of direction..:) Would be cool to see that comparison! Keep me informed, please?

Cheers,

hugo

Joanna *   {K:866} 6/24/2006
Wow, it's beautiful photo!!!!! The blue sky, white clouds, sunbeams and water, super! Congratulations!

Chris Hunter   {K:25631} 6/26/2006
Well composed, natural colors, good sky... I see very little to improve on. This is that great time when the sky is turning burnt orange, yet there is still light falling hitting the foreground.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks, James, this scene always has a calming effect on me, and I wish I started earlier in photography, so I would've had the chance of capturing it in various circumstances...

Cheers,

Hugo

Photography at it's best. Even the slight camera shake does not deter from the beauty of this landscape, it even seems to add a sense of motion to the composition. Love it. :) Andree
