Dear Ron, thanks for your comment.
Yes, this guy is a Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis). They are strictly coastal and right now you can find them all over the California Coast.
This December I am planning to go to La Jolla in San Diego. There you can find them with their spectacular breeding plumage.
