Lubi Star   {K:3903} 6/1/2006
i really like how the sky is reflected in the lake... more intense colors than the actual ones... nice capture indeed...

György Szönyi   {K:8347} 6/1/2006
Very beautiful picture! 1: it is technically perfect; 2: the composition is very exciting as the "peaks" of the foreground rocks are in dialogue with the real peak in the background; 3: the reflection is strongly impressive; 4: the colors are very beautiful. Definitely, the strongest feature is the composition. Congratulations: György

Eb Mueller   {K:22993} 6/1/2006
Interesting reversal of drama to the reflected sky with this polarizer. Very eye catching composition which appears to uncannily follow the rule of thirds!

John Segon-Fisher   {K:2580} 6/1/2006
Superb and classic composition Howie - what can I say - colour, DOF, tonal range, cropping, location, clarity are all spot on. Very well done old chap.

Joao Sousa   {K:10089} 6/1/2006

Beautiful capture Howie the colours are amazing

John Loreaux   {K:85782} 6/2/2006
This is nice Howie! The blue/Yel filter brought out the contrast in the sky.
The overall scene is pleasing. The only thing that would improve the shot is a bird, duck or boat on the water! The reflections are nice!Very good use of the foreground rocks!
Well done My Friend! Take care Howie! My best..................John

Miles Herbert   {K:1947} 6/2/2006
Nice diagonal composition, which works in both directions giving a very strong balance to this. I'm not keen on the coloured polarisers, to me the colours are just slightly out of kilter, especially in the water lower left. I think I would have used an ND Grad to really bring out that sky, there are some nice light/dark patches up there, which I don't feel the b/y polariser has quite done justice to. All in all a really good strong image, just not keen on the choice of filter!

Incidentally, now you have the 10mm ultra wide angle capability, try shooting this again with a similar sky, as I feel that the ultra wide pull on the sides would give for a really moody scene here ... if you have ND Grad filters that can cope with the 10mm lens!

Very beautiful landscape, well composed, with lovely colors

Carlos Hauck   {K:1065} 6/3/2006
Fantastic compositon and colours!

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184981} 6/3/2006
Hi Howie,

Your landscapes are spectacular. I think the use of the cokin filter (not my usual preference, as in most cases I find the effect look too artificial) is great here; it creates a very tranquil and even somewhat romantic mood.

The simplicity of the scene (not necessarily the compositon) is superb, and I like the contrast between the warm tones of the grass, the blue water and the pink hues in the sky; very good balance.

The composition with the lake shore in the lower right is great; removing the grass in the lower left might be something to consider to make the element of simplicity a bit stronger, but that's only a matter of finetuning.

A pity you didn't fill in the camera settings, but it looks like a relatively slow shutter speed with a small aperture. Just curious if it's a time-blur or just a perfectly still day....

Very good photo.

Cheers,

Hugo

Nice image Howie, congrats on the award. Colours are very bold. Im really impressed with the filter. It rendered the reflection and the mountains superbly.

Michael Fox   {K:3180} 6/3/2006
Hey, Howie -- Congratulations on the Photographer of the Day! Good work. I like how you have used the reflection of the hill to narrow the channel of reflected sky. My eyes easily follow that channel of reflected sky right into the center of the image. I also like the coloring you achieved using that blue/yellow filter. I own a similar filter and, although I have shot a lot with it, I am yet find satisfaction with it. Congrats, again.

Regards,
-Mike.

Leora Long   {K:9989} 6/3/2006
Congratulations, Howie, on POD. Well deserved.

A very tactile sense of these rocks and the reflecting pool.

Beautiful colors, warm and cool at the s ame time. I have not heard of this filter. I am so lazy now -- doing every thing through PS filters and effects.

Cheers, Leora

Liz Wallis   {K:25628} 6/3/2006

Howie:

I'm such a slacker. I saved this off a while ago wanting to do a little PS work and here I finally got around to doing it.

Really great shot, just a little bit of masking around different areas.
