Just amazing to have got this Doyle. The strength and the textures and colours. So powerful.

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100828} 6/11/2006
Thanks Mohamed! This was a controlled burn at Universal Studios as they showed us how the special effects for the movie "Backdraft" were done. Dangerous in real life . . . controlled here . . . beautiful either way . . . as well as dangerous. I appreciate the comment!

Thanks my brother! The blaze was controlled by the same special effects people who did the movie "Backdraft" so, while dangerous in real life . . . I was relatively safe (and a tad bit warm)!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100828} 6/11/2006
Thanks Mary . . . it was a bit warm inside, but the blaze was, in fact, well controlled by special effects masters from the Universal Studio, who, with Ron Howard made a great picture you may have seen . . . "Backdraft".

hi, i think this one works better than first one...more defined by the contrast level...like the wide format,too.....ok,since i know little about special effects,is a controlled fire like this still dangerous to the actors,or are the shots incorporated in editing?
regards,gayle

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100828} 6/12/2006
Thanks Howie - I appreciate the comment.

Hi again Gayle. As it happens, these shots are still dangerous for the actors, although it is very controlled. If you saw "Backdraft", the scene where one fireman was holding on to a broken scaffold with one hand and onto another fireman with the other (near the end) was filmed with real fire both above and below (and, therefore quite hot). The lower fireman caught fire (really) and it burned through all three layers of fire protection he was wearing so he had to yell "CUT" so they would put him out. Real ash and embers were shot from a tube to add effect. By the way, a steel cable ran through the clothing of the fireman on top and secured the lower fireman. Complicated, but effective illusions which can be dangerous but are essentially very much monitored. Fascinating stuff.

Thanks for info and i enjoyed the film...have profound respect for firemen/women....the actors or studio must be insured by Lloyd's of London due to the high risk!

Susie OConnor   {K:34798} 6/12/2006
Fire is such a great abstract, I like the way you are exploring the possibilities here. Each one is entirely different and it's constantly changing. Have fun Doyle!

Thanks Phillip . . . probably should have 'processed' a bit more . . . but this is simple levels and crop changes. I appreciate the comment!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100828} 6/20/2006
Thanks Claudia!! The fire did most of the work for me . . . as far as color goes . . . but I'll take credit for the composition!! :)

You play a lot with fire, Doyle. Just be carteful (lol.) Anyway, the results justify the means in this case.
Thank you for your kind comments on my recent photos.
Best regards,
Rafi

Thank you for your continued support and 'fire warnings'! :)
Clearly I like to play with fire . . . I married a Scorpio! Hehehehee. Always careful and always grateful for the support.

Curiouser & curiouser! I'm also married to a Scorpio!
I used to play with fire when I was a child, but was severely beaten for it.
As to me, I am (I think) Aquarius. I don't know what that means Zodiac-wise, but my Scorpio & I get along perfectly.
Best regards,
Rafi

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100828} 6/26/2006
Hahaha . . . my Scorpio and I get along fine too...... clearly we have learned to keep the wives happy (even if we didn't know we were being taught)! We're practically twins.
:)

Hi Doyle,
1. I apologise for not asking about you & your Scorpio in the first place.
2. So I assume you are also an Aquarius.
3. If I had your Emial address, I would tell you how my Scorpio & I met. It's a story that starts at the Taj Mahal (India, no mistake) & goes on to Aphrodite's Rock on Cyprus, but too complex to tell in detail here.
Best regards,
Rafi

Rafi:
1. Nonsense!
2. I am a saggitarius.
3. E-Mail address hidden in my bio!

:)
