About For the Abstract Project . . . I thought maybe more than the inherent abstract qualities inherent in fire itself . . . I would impose an order that would be at odds with the natural chaos . . . yin and yang, if you will.
Taking a section of the metal catwalk, with flames shooting through it, I cropped out a perfect square. Then, I filtered the image with a spheroid filter to distort the flame and grating into a 3 dimensional sphere of fire. Viola, an abstract and naturally unpredictable force of nature with a built in beauty has been forced into a recognizable and predictable shape. (1/30sec; f/4.2; 78mm) What do you think?

Hi Doyle,
Thanks for walking us through how you did this. You created a very interesting piece of abstract art. You are right about the inherent nature of fire and it's use in this picture is excellent. I can almost feel the heat from this ball of fire. Great PS work.
Cheers,
Chris

Creative image that I thought at first was an image of false teeth:-)))I like the three dimensional feel to it.
Best wishes,

Beautiful Abstract ..the vision of the fire ball is amazing, Doyle.. good PS work.. well balanced with the sphere, fire & framing.
juz a thought: the fireball shooting out of the frame would be a different perspective.
Regards & best wishes,
Jennifer

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99842} 6/21/2006
Thanks Jennifer. I like it! I like it! Great idea about the framing to consider in my future work. I did a creative 'breakthrough frame' http://www.usefilm.com/image/1070768.html only once . . . I will definitely look into for work in the future. Great idea.
