About A storm blew out this Robin's egg from the nest. With mom not around and the egg cold (no rescue possible) I thought I'd try to at least take a few photographs and celebrate it's short existance.

Shallow DOF shot with the egg on a spoon.

Got some inspiration to return to object macros by the fork work of Phillip Minnis.

Detailed cleanup in PS, and the standard, levels, saturation, color correction stuff.

Very effective capture and I like the sever depth and bokeh. Great capture :)

COOL dof and i like the foreground where the forks "needles" meets the green egg.

Great selective focus on the water droplets on the egg. The focus distorts the fork :-) really nicely.

cool idea like the water drops

Oh that's just forking great!... sorry, couldn't resist, surprised no-one's said it before me ;)

Seriously though, I prefer egg on fork over egg on spoon. I think the prongs add a more interesting dynamic. Nice work :)

Phil's forks give few food for thought (try saying that three times, f-f-fast)

Cheers
Rina.

A very striking image, Michael! Fantastic shallow DOF, great colours and fascinating and intriguing comp! Well done!

Cheers

Oh, and by the way, Michael, I just noticed your mention of my recent fork images inspiring you to do these last two images - thank you!

However, you have used a great deal more imagination than I did! Excellent work!

Cheers

Phil

I just came across this image...really nice. This is my favorite of your recent egg photos. The shallow DOF is very appealing and the cool colors work well. There is something disconcerting about the fresh and natural robin's egg against the cold steel of the fork. That disconcerting element makes me want to look at the image even longer.

Really a rocking image!
