| About |
Male Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) from Shoreline Park. I know this is the male because the female is underground, taking care of the babies. Hopefully very soon they will come out of their borrows.
The extermination of burrowing mammals (mostly ground squirrels and gophers) in northern California has reduced the availability of suitable nesting sites. Additionally, the conversion of native grasslands to croplands and residential areas has greatly diminished available habitat for this birds. From Birds of Northern California. Fix and Bezener. 2000.
Shoreline Park is one of the last strongholds for this fascinating species.

Whoa! Great capture on this Yamil! Looks like you were really close to him! You've captured details on the feather, the piercing eyes and sharp talons - just awesome!

Wow such an intense stare, The sharp yellow eyes are Impressive, I like the detail and perfect sharpness, Getting him on the pole was great as you can view him from head to toe, which is rarely seen, another nice background, again excellent..
