hello Randee,
even though successful portraits usually require eye contact, your photograph is so captivating just by missing that. the appropriate expression of her beautiful face turned at the right angle by a skilful photographer helps a lot, as the b/w choice does ;-)

she seems so sad and lonely!!!
Like if one second before she was simulated serenity and happyness and for only one second (the one that you take the shot) she show her real cheer.
