About Newport, Rhode Island 7-1-06

1/400th - f/8 - iso100 - 68mm

Leaving Newport, RI on route to New York on Saturday, Bruno Peyron and his maxi catamaran with eleven crewmen crossed the North Atlantic in 4 days, 8 hours, 23 minutes and 54 seconds at an average speed above 27 knots via the theoretical route.

The Orange II Dream Team improved on the record set by Steve Fossett’s PlayStation by 9 hours 4 minutes and 12 seconds, a record that was said to be unbeatable.

Here, Orange II is seen passing the famous Castle Hill Lighthouse on it's way out into the open Atlantic. This is, for the time being, the fastest wind powered boat in the ocean. We were blasting with two Yamaha 250s and could barely keep up.

You have a tough job, but somebody has to do it. What a wonderful way to make a living, sailing and shooting breathtaking pictures. I could look at your work for hours and hours.
