ZHe got some shadows in the face, and you should've cropped the picture so it doesn't show so much blank sky space and part of the letters on his shirt, which distract. But other than that, I love how the picture turned out. Looks like an ad from a cologne or something.

Thanks, I like how the shadows still exist on the face. They're there and natural, yet not too dark and overpowering. As far as the cropping goes, I messed around with different compositions and didnt like them. I think the open space above the head is fine, but I do agree on the tiny bit of logo left on the shirt. I will probably edit this out of the image.

I used photoshop to create the skintone look of this image. Duplicate your layer and convert it to monochromatic using the channel mixer. I've used mostly the blue channel to bring out the blemishes in the skin. After converting to monochrome, set the transfer mode to multiply. Then adjust your opacity/fill as well as levels accordingly. It takes no time to create the look once you've practiced and experimented with various shots.

Chad,
This is good use of fill in flash. Perhaps just a tad too much though. Try setting your flash to 1/2 exposure to keep some of the shadow depth around the neck, eyes and left hand side of the face.
I agree with the cropping comments. Too much space overhead and the logo has got to go.

Now that I see it, you're right...the crop is nice, because the sky space is the same as the shirt space. I didn't notice when I first commented because it was late and I was tired. Good stuff. ;)
