I think you grabbed the right moment,
but the image would have been even more powerful if both eyes of the
child would have been visible.
And maybe crop to the right side of the image (see attachment) ?

A powerful and moving image, with terrific technique in capture of color, light, detail, and mood... Your composition is fine here, but I also like the cropped version offered by Herman... It tends to really zero in for impact, and I believe you have sufficient detail to try an enlarged version with that tight a crop... Would also be terrific in BW tones as well...
