About Just about 3k from this spot a tornado touched down on the small village of Combermere Ontario. This area was not damaged at all.

This misty image was inspired by Andrzej Pradzynski's series of Elvesland images of the same area.

The title comes from half a line in a famous Van Morrison song.

Very interesting about and very powerful Misty Morning effect here, I do find the composition very great and so the exposure value for this time of the day and under this critical lighting condition.

Very amazing capture to study, and hard to pick the write words to add a suitable comment here.

This image was very interesting to me.

Wishing you all of the best my friend

cheers.

Nicely done, Andre! Fog and mist are sometimes hard to capture, but you've done it well here, along with a good composition of the scene.
Dave.

Thanks Rashed,
I had many different versions of this one before I settled on posting this one. It is a delicate balance trying to get as much detail in the lighted areas without leaving too much completely black due to the back lighting.

Hi Dave,
I agree. There is a delicate balance trying to get the fog to look right. There are many different ways it can be shown. I suppose most of it is subjective. Sometimes you can think you have a great shot, but when it comes to processing, it doesn't always work as planned.

Thanks for the nice comment Jan!
It is always nice to here from some new people in the comments!
This one was delicate, as you say. I worried a lot over this one for some very small changes.
I probably could have gone straight from the camera with the post. But this might be a little better.:)

Andre, so you were back to elvesland, good for you, you are bringing beautiful images back from your cottage. Nice composition and charming atmosphere. Agree with Dave's comments earlier that it's not that easy to do good picture of hazy or misty scenes, a lot of things to consider including light, direction, access to the best spot etc. Did you have had situations that AF feature couldnot adjust? OK, hope to see many great shots, the one is wondrous. Nice to hear that my ideas may inspire. Cheers, NJ
PS, I'm going back there first week of Sept for the whole week with a hope to shoot a couple of nice pictures of elves.

Hi Andrzej,
Yes we were there on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
I know what you mean about the auto-focus having trouble with fog and mist. When using auto-focus and exposure in a case like this, I usually take a few shots aiming at different areas for the exposure and different DOFs. This was actually quite a bright day and I believe that when I aimed in the distance, I got a fairly small aperature. So, in this case focus wasn't really a problem. If it gets difficult, I switch to manual focus and exposure. One thing that I tried last week was some shots focusing under water. That was a challenge for the auto focus, but I got some decent shots. I'll post a couple later on.

We were lucky that our cottage and new dock were not damaged by the tornado last week. Combermere was very badly damaged. Also the area around Hyde's Marina off hwy 62. I will not be there the first week of September (moving son to Boston again for University Labour Day weekend)

I usually go up during the week for a couple of days at a time. I like it that way when it feels very isolated.

I'll occasionally post some more images from the area.

I think you've done a very nice job of balancing light and shadow in this. My only question - did you consider cropping out the sky and hilltop on this?

Jon

Just excellent. I like the mood and atmosphere very much.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the comment on this one. Yes I did consider cutting the white part of the sky out. In hind-sight, it probably would have been a little more balanced that way. There is probably enough brightish white in the fog, in the middle of the shot to balance the image with the top part removed. I have a sepia version of this shot. Maybe I'll try it that way.

Thanks for your return visit and comment Partha.
I'm glad you like this one. I may post a sepia toned version a little latter on.

Jon,

And for those who prefer a nice sepia tone...

I like both of these - the original colour and the sepia, in the tighter crop. Whether my approval equates to a better photograph, I'm not sure :-]

Cheers,

Jon

Thanks Jon,
I know what you mean. There is always more than one way to skin a cat! You can't please all of the people all of the time.... etc. etc.
I like them all too! That's what makes this passtime/hobby/art, so interesting.

Thanks Violetta,
Thanks for visiting and for commenting on this one. There is a slightly different version of this without the sky. I posted it as an attachment to one of the comments. You might like it better.. or maybe this one is better for you?
Andre
