In 1918 this bridge built over the Manawatu River for Tane's Co to export the processed flax to Foxton.Designed and constructed by Pahiatua contractor Joseph Lawson. The chimney still standing marks where the mill was.In 1925 when the mill closed the bridge became known as the Opiki Toll Bridge then later in 1969 closed following the construction of a new concrete bridge nearby.
The Opiki Toll bridge was the only toll bridge operating in NZ until 1959, when a toll was charged on the newly built Auckland Harbour bridge. It was the longest suspension bridge in the country measuring 477 feet(145mtr)between the two concrete towers.

First time I saw this bridge whilst driving I was unable to stop, this second visit purposely to find it again! :O) a rather dull cold day, but still a fullfilling visit,and a few pleasing pics ;O)
