About Please cross reference to my other Photo Help upload earlier this evening for information on this photo.

This upload was taken with my Fuji S7000 which seems to do much better at night than my Nikon D70 (the camera which was used for my other Photo Help photo).

The colours seems nicer, and the streetlamps seem to have more of a starburst effect as opposed to the other photo where they appear as globs of light. the curvature in the building at left is also not as bad on this photo, however thats a function of the lens i believe, i had a wide angle lens on the nikon last night.

exposure data: 1/1.3 f5.0, some saturation, adjustment of contrast/brightness, unsharp mask. photometry: used spot metering.

the other photo can be seen here for comparison:

any comments on how to improve this photo or the other one much appreciated.

Very successful night shot James!

Hi James,

Never realised the camera would create such a difference. Very interesting. Eventhough the flare around the lights is less, I think the colours of your D70 version are stronger.

Very difficult to really assess what's going on, I think there are a lot of factors involved.

Cheers,

Hugo

I like the other photo better because the image seems a lot sharper. As for the appearance of the lights, you might want to try using a star filter with that lens or try to exclude the closest light from the image. I assume you are using a tripod, which is a must for long exposures. I think this image would be neat using a 30 second exposure, streaking the lights of the automobiles, though that is just a personal preference.

Great composition and exposure on both. Late evening or early mornings are always some of the best times to shoot. Nice work,

.... Mike

James, here's a cool tip:

when you get a shot that feels overly warm to you, go to Photoshop's Hue & Saturation control. Note how it opens in Master (RGB) mode, but with the drop-down requestor at top, you can JUST select the Red. Now, turn red's saturation down a bit and go back to the Master slider for an overall adjustment.
it's fast and pretty effective much of the time.

James,
I'm with you. I think this is the better image of the two, with the exception that this one appears to suffer a bit from some lack of clarity, possibly caused by the overpass shaking while shooting? Clearly, the really bold rectangular light in the mid-ground is an unavoidable outcome of the necessary exposure time, but it can be toned down by masking out the rest of the image and either de-saturating this item, or using the shadows / highlights feature.
