Excellent use of DoF and of lighting. Nicely shot. Here is one of my butterfly images:

http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1152187

They are near impossible to shoot.

Ursula Luschnig   {K:21932} 8/22/2006
Indeed! One needs some patience, especially when you try to catch him in flight ...as you also did :)
Thank you !

Riny Koopman   {K:77676} 8/22/2006
Ha ha..This is absolutely a show case of nature beauty and atmosphere..:)

Hugo de Wolf   {K:185017} 8/22/2006
Hi Ursula,

this is usually not my type of photo, but this is definitely the exception to that rule...

The large area of negative space is excellent; it really makes the butterfly in mid air stand out. Also, the subtle details in the background and the DoF are pretty impressive, everything in this photo falls in place. Great shot!

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf   {K:185017} 8/22/2006
A well deserved PoD, I might add...:)

Massimo Di Maggio   {K:-55870} 8/22/2006
It's your turn now ;) Nice day... Very beautiful photo, I like the composition with a lot of darkness that increases the sense of magic, I like also the delicacy and poetry in this image. Congrats!!! Max

Yutaka Itinose   {K:21359} 8/22/2006
Nice! sure deserving POD dear Ursula, super capture and novelty composition,I tried flattering butterfly just takeoff from the flower now, but in vain such as adaped one, and knew needs special setting of cam and patience to capture.

Ursula Luschnig   {K:21932} 8/23/2006
Dear Yutaka, you know my settings are rather unorthodox,I cannot even repeat it...pure accident :) And btw...your butterfly is lovely !Butterfy shooting reminds me actually a bit of skeet ...only less noisy :)
Good morning there...
Ursula

Yutaka Itinose   {K:21359} 8/23/2006
So, I say 'accidental beaty', even so,many accidental works on your pages.

NN     {K:26787} 8/23/2006
Hi Ursula! Such an awesome butterfly shot; talk about timing! Love the unusual compo/big negative space. Fascinating work! Congrats on the award! :) *hugs*

Hugo de Wolf   {K:185017} 8/23/2006
Hi Ursula, please don't convert this to B&W! Why would you want to do that? I think it will induce an atmosphere on the photo which isn't there, and isn't needed either. A B&W photo will only reduce the impact of this photo, and quite considerably so.

Cheers,

Hugo

Ursula Luschnig   {K:21932} 8/23/2006
Hi Hugo,it is always good to get the opinion of an experienced photographer,so follow your advice:)

Ursula, I have been away and as I look at your latest offerings, I am overwhelmed by the way your creativity has blossomed. This photo is so magical in the way that you have made such a bold statement by understating the rich space. You not only captured the butterfly skillfully, you have done so with such artistic flair! This is simply beautiful, and goes directly into my favorites....
