Wonderful Landscape capture and the moon there add a lot of interest to this amazing composition .

Wishing you all of the best my friend

Dev    {K:3446} 8/31/2006
Seriously, I personally feel, the pic is much better without the speedway in the foreground. Do you ahve a version with just the sky and the distant buildings in the horizon?

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 8/31/2006
Thanks Ibrihim!

I agree with you 100% . . . I was with Monica and Marlyce and they both pointed it out to me and asked if I was going to shoot it . . . and I said "Nope, already did!"

Just too beautiful to pass up!

Doyle I <~~~~~~

Thanks Rashed . . . it was an outdoor racing event at night and we were blessed with warm, wonderful weather and this beautiful sunset. Very nice.

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 8/31/2006
Sorry Dev . . . I was at the speedway to watch the races and you can see that the tower climbs quite high . . . I would have to lose either the moon or the orange colors to get the shot you asked for . . . or leave the track which was really why I was there . . . the sunset was serendipity, nothing more.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~~

Dev    {K:3446} 8/31/2006

Wauw!! I just adore this shot because of the wonderful sky with beautiful colours and the moon as a VIP-guest to the races. Not fair at all - I also want to have such an excellent seat;-)
All the best,
Annemette

Mary Slade   {K:40918} 9/1/2006
The lines of colours wonderful Doyle. Got to thirteen and had to give up! Like 3d and so strong and rich.

Sam Graziano III   {K:14064} 9/1/2006
Doyle,Doyle,Doyle!

Where to begin!

First of I Love this shot. Very Very fantastic control over the Camera!
The Composition is perfect and the silhouettes of the building are superb!
I think the inclusion of the moon is what brings this shot all together.
I think the only thing tat would improve this shot, if that could be done! Is the removal of the guard fence. Not that its overly distractive, but it does draw the eyes away.
But whether you left it in or took it out, this is still one AWESOME Photo and well deservnig of all the recognition it can get.
Well done my friend and thank you for all of your comments and critiques on my images!

Regards

Sam Graziano III
7/7 and into fav's!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/1/2006
Thanks Annemette! Next time you're in town Marlyce and I would be glad to take you and Asger to the exact same spot to watch the races! Can't guarantee the moon or weather though . . . I CAN guarantee warmer weather than what you guys are accustomed too! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~~

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/1/2006
Thanks Mary . . . this was stunning to see at the time and I was glad (suprise - suprise) to have my camera with me at the time too! ;)

Thanks Juan . . . it was beautiful indeed!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/1/2006
Thanks Sam! I thought long and hard about a crop that left the fence out. This image is two images stitched together because it was the only way I could include the blackness and the moon while still getting the ground to anchor the composition.
My concern was that the fence on the lower right, were I to crop it out, is at a height where I would lose the green and any suggestion as to the width of the track. On looking now though, I wonder if a hint of track and the crash wall would be enough.
Great pointer Sam . . . I may consider re-posting this one with a modification along those lines! Appreciate it. Very much!

Doyle I <~~~~~~

Hi Doyle,

I think the colours and tones in this photo are great, they create a very surreal feel. Well composed too, and I like the huge flash you used to lit up the speedway (must've been one hell of a big flashlight...:) Just kidding, of course)

To me, it's the gradient in the sky with the moon as finishing touch that create the image; quite a good contrast with the seemingly deserted speedway. Very cool shot.

Cheers,

Hugo

Klaas  Baas   {K:15115} 9/3/2006
You came out of bed very early to do this one before the race. Beautifully coloured sky here Doyle, and the moon is the cream on the cake. Did you go to bed for another hour after taking this one? LOL
Take care,

Klaas ;)

Annemette Rosenborg Eriksen   {K:55404} 9/3/2006
You bet I“ll tell you if we“re coming to L.A. again.:-) Next time in the U.S. will be at a congress in Arizona. I“ll bring my camera and hope to get some nice shots while wandering around in the desert like a silly tourist not minding the rattlesnakes, the hot sun or the criminals hidding behind every cactus;-)))

Rina     {K:26896} 9/4/2006
*knock knock knock*

Good evening Sir, this is The Foreground Distraction Police. We've come to confiscate your equipment, slap your wrist and totally suck the merits out of any shot you may be proud of.

You have the right to clone. You have the right to dodge and burn, but any elements left unaltered can and will be used against you.

;D

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/4/2006
Thanks Eze!!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/4/2006
Thanks Hugo . . . the speedway actually was deserted (between races) and I was thinking that that would add to the appeal . . . The speedway was kind enough to help me with the lighting and . . . get this . . . no cameras (especially digital) allowed! I had to ask three different levels of people to get permission and they said no professional lenses!! HA! I told them only a lens I bought from the local camera store . . . 80-300mm . . . and they said . . . "Oh! Well I guess that'd be ok!!" Wooooo Hoooo . . . the joys of amateur status! It was an interesting trip!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~~

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/4/2006
Errrrr . . . typo . . . 70-300mm! :)

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/4/2006
Nice guess Klaas . . . but this is sunset, not sunrise . . . and I stayed up late. I always get up by 4:00am!! I had, in point of fact . . . a couple or three hours of sleep AFTER taking this one . . . of sleep . . . then UP AND AT 'EM!!! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~~

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/4/2006
Great Annemette . . . here in LA the criminals aren't hiding behind every cactus . . . . . . . They don't hide! Hehehehehee
Oh! And - for the record - Marlyce and I look like tourists too! Sometimes that's a helpful way to look!!
:)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~~

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/4/2006
:)
Dearest Rina . . . Well, well, well . . . ain't you cute!! I love it! And in the spirit of making things LESS distracting for those of us who are easily distracted by bright, shiny objects and sparkly things . . . I have attached a less distracting view with little distraction and the composition draws the eyes invariably to the subject!! I KNOW you'll appreciate it!!
BWA HAHAHAHAHAAA!

Warmest Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~~

No Distraction . . . Great Composition!

Hugo de Wolf   {K:185017} 9/4/2006
ROFL! Doyle did good. You aint got no proof, lady, and I'm willing to testify. As law abiding photographer and esteemed member of the council against the effective ruining of perfectly good photos (AKA: CAERPGP - and believe me, that does sound better in Dutch) you can expect a call from my guys in suits.

Cheers,

Hugo

Ace Star   {K:20559} 9/4/2006

Sheila Carson   {K:5915} 9/4/2006
Sorry that I haven't been around for a while. I've been working on restoring all of my moms old photos. There's just not enough time in the day to do everything that I want to do.

Wow, that little sliver of a moon is spectacular! Great colors! Beautiful shot Doyle. I love it.

Rina     {K:26896} 9/4/2006
Right, well, we'll let you off with a warning this time. But just know that we've had numerous complaints about your reckless refusal to please the masses. One more slip, and we'll be back... with the Moon and Sky Composition Police if need be.

Rina     {K:26896} 9/4/2006
Ahhh... the good ole CAERPGP... The rational voice amongst the hysterical, the fixer-uppers of perfectly good but ludicrous critiques made by the fickle-picky, defenders of lost causes...

No need for intervention, Mr Chastain has bowed to pressure, oops I mean, has seen the error of his ways. I'm sure we can all get along quite nicely now.

Move along people... nothing to see here.

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/5/2006
Thanks Ace, my brother! I appreciate the comments, especially from a sunset master like yourself! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:100221} 9/5/2006
Totally understand Sheila!! Placing only a paltry 24 hours in a day really bites! I'd have thought 30 would have been good (and a round number would have been easier to calculate days, etc.)! I'm so far behind myself it's rediculous. But we HAVE to set those priorities. Apparently feeding children and animals around here is more important than tinkering with a photo on my computer . . . and apparently I was SUPPOSED to know that already without being told . . . LoL! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~
