About Today we went hiking on the upper meadows of Sunshine Meadows which brought about some fantastic images that I will upload tomorrow. And as the sunset we were passing by Ole Mt. Rundle and the vermillion lakes area. A hard place to pass by without yanking out the camera to give it a bit of a go and see what comes of it. I had just stepped in mud up to my ankle to get this perspective while the sun was fast lowering below the horizon and so my wet foot was barely felt as I snapped way. I was thankful that the bugs were on holiday today or it might have been a bit of a trial.
Oh yeah another thing, I finally broke down and got a ND filter...WoW what a difference after battling the overblown sky syndrome for so many years. So much less Photoshop to compensate now...yeah!

Excellent shot, beautiful colours & light. The composition is perfect I think and certainly well worth a wet foot, heck you'd go waist deep for this wouldn't you?!!! My only criticism is the sticks in the centre seem to me to be a tiny tiny bit over-exposed. But appart from that a magical shot. Well done, R

Enthralling scene Tim. The background almost appears as to be a superbly crafted backdrop. Many great aspects to this image; lighting, depth, colors, and 4 distinct zones of interest. Nicely balanced, a real beauty.

Dear Tim:
This is one of the most magnificent landscapes I have ever seen! I congratulate you on all aspects... lighting, exposure, colours, DOF, composition, and truly capturing the "golden moment". This image is better by far than any postcard of it's "type" I have come across.

Might I suggest you put this into the peace and tranquility theme UF has this month? This magnificent image most definitely evokes a feeling of peace and tranquility within my soul.

Warm Wihses~
Aniko :)

Absolutely SUPERB! It struck me from the thumbnail! A great shot from all points of view, love the colours in the grasses and dried wood contrasting with the blue-green of the water. A rare composition that inspires both tranquility and delight!

Amazing view Tim, each picture shows that you're a photographer that is not afraid of wetting your feet in order to get a good picture.

Excellent colours and detail.

Is the new ND filter graduated?

All the best.

Francisco

Hi Francisco,
Yes it is a 2 stop grey hard grad filter. I wanted a soft gred filter but the photo store I was at did not have one at the moment.

Tim, when much younger, I lived in Banff. I have seen a lot of Vermillion Lakes shots and this is one of the best! Your processing is great! Is it a graduated ND filter you are using?
Eb

Tim  Schumm   {K:28854} 9/24/2006
Hi Eb,
yes the ND filter has made these shots much easier.
I also lived in Banff for about 7 years from late 70's to mid 80's mostly Climbing and working @ ski areas. I was an aspiring Guide and extreme outdorrs guy. But it has all taken its toll and now my kness are shot and i am not sure how much longer i will be doing the big hikes.

Eb Mueller   {K:23800} 9/24/2006
Tim, I'll have to look into the ND's. Hate to put anything in front of my lenses. I was in Banff during 1970-73 and also attending BSFA, (Photography.) No more hiking for me - I would have to call it a walk!
Eb

Tim  Schumm   {K:28854} 9/24/2006
Hi Eb,

I have been hiring helicopters to cool places over the years...yeah right to the good places without all the killer hiking. It doesn't cost much if it is close to Squamish airport for example and within 15-20 min flight. We got friends together to fill a 206 jet ranger and I think it was around $150 each. I have to say I shot 700 images on that flight. It was worth going to a pristine area where there are no trials and you are in the alpine meadows with lakes all over the place. It takes a bit of research to know where to go but with Google Earth to help...who knows? Ohhh and if you camp for a few days even better.
