Hi Leora!

Not sure what you were going for here, I am going to assume that you were looking for a nice night shot on the water with reflections? I would have either zoomed out or taken a different pov further away to capture the night life scene and reflections in the water, a long shutter of say 10-15 seconds and a lower ISO of 200. Using a tripod would be a must me thinks! Also you might want to smooth out some of the noise in photo shop or psp.

Brenda :)

Leora Long   {K:9989} 9/14/2006
Hi, Brenda. I was going for the painterly style - emulating the night views by Van Gogh with intense artificial light. His were street scenes but also featured cafes.

I appreciate your opinion, Brenda, but I was not interested in opening the shadows or smoothing out the noise as these elements brought me closer to the paintings my mother did a la Van Gogh. I have no patience for oil painting.

I think a lighter sky might help, so I will have to keep experimenting.

Please stay tuned...

Here is more like what I was going for, Brenda, so I thank you for raising the question.

It's a little noisy ... but otherwise ... very cool. Great job. Tara

i didn't like it at first, then read what you were trying to do, and think you did it quite well! so strangely now i like it...

Thanks, James. I am glad you like it. But actually I was only half way there. I put up another version where I think the colors are even more like Van Gogh.

Leora Long   {K:9989} 9/21/2006
Thanks, Tara. I am glad you liked it.

I did an update, because someone else commented on the noise and I think I brought out more of the color I was originally going for with less noise.

Tara Gullett   {K:1678} 9/23/2006
I tried playing w/ this one too .. to get the noise down.. it was hard to get the shadows...etc to work with the colors and remove noise as well. Oh.. well. Take a look. Tara

Interesting paintbrush effect, Tara. I can try it on my second version.
