About A lone seagull . . . sitting on the rocks and enjoying the pounding of the surf on the rocks . . . very quiet and the other gulls were out and about. I seldom see these guys alone . . . they're flocking creatures by nature. He caught my eye as much as the setting and was so clearly relaxed and enjoying the view . . . that the slow shutter speed here . . . reflected in the sea . . . did not blur him says something about his mental state. Of course, like him, I enjoyed the scene! I was reminded of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. :)

Thanks Shirley . . . I was looking for a "Tranquil" subject to shoot at the ocean (Oh my, imagine that! Hehehehee) but when I saw this ONE lone seagull . . . I thought of the alone project . . . :)

Marvelous moment captured here, Doyle. I really like your composition. Very well exposed, too. Excellent work, my friend.

Fair enough Manu . . . been looking into frames which will present images without being a distraction from the image . . . I hated the resize on this one . . . smaller than I prefer but essential to maintain minimal distortion / compression issues plagued the shot and I wonder now (of course hindsight is 20/20) whether I could have had more success in a more minimal frame. Anyway - I appreciate the comment.

 LGreget   {K:18529} 9/14/2006
Love the look of the ocean here - very dreamy like.

It's great that the seagull was standing still in this image and did not blur the image by moving.

Beautiful!

Lisa

Wonderful image and title Doyle. Love the sea like this- the colour and the lighting. Just wish I was that seagull!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 9/14/2006
Thanks Paul . . . I was on the cliffs at the Pointe Vicente Lighthouse / whale watch pull-out in Palos Verdes (Southern California). The shot was downwards as well as out . . . and a LONG ways down -- I know having made the trip to the bottom and back! Apparently frequented by several UF photographers like myself, my wife and Lisa Greget to name a few . . . though there are more. It's awesome and scenic. I appreciate your comment.

Thanks Jessie! - My history of posting has always been tough on my friends. I tend to post tons . . . then nothing for a while. For example . . . I'll likely post one, perhaps two more images until Monday . . . since we're usually VERY busy on weekends and will be in San Francisco this weekend too! I harbor no grudges against people for not keeping up . . . I realize there are those that actually have a non-UF life! BUT . . . When I get back from San Francisco . . . BWA HAHAHAHAHAA! ;)

Thanks Lisa! They'll do ANYTHING for a handful of Doritos! LoL! Funny though . . . we BOTH stood stock still . . . him, just enjoying life . . . me, whispering . . . "don't move - come on Baby! - DON'T move! Pleeeeeese freeze! Easy now! "; etc. Luck my friend. Nothing but!

Very beautiful Doyle - perfect for the Alone project. I like the saturated colour and the hazy, almost marble effect on the water. Very well composed!

Wow Doyle! This has to be one of your best images, I think! I love the cliffs, the ocean and the lonely seagull who flew out there for you after being promised a treat maybe?! Great shuttereffect!
Best wishes,
Annemette

I imagine so:-) Having so many animals you don´t get to travel a lot unless you can get a lift on the Noah´s Ark being built in Holland!;-)
I had an excellent trip to Italy, although it was not with a speer or ax in my hand, but a pen(and camera;-))
Take care California Kid!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 9/19/2006
Great . . . The camera is a better way to capture the locals now-a-days anyways!! LoL!
