Hi James,
The "marks" were clouds that weren't being illuminated by the setting sun. Don't mind the edit at all, it does look cleaner that way. I didn't edit it out because I like to show what I really saw :) Thanks for your comments!

Thanks Jeanette - The settings for this were 1/15 @ f/18.0 :) The clouds did actually look like wings to me when I was taking the shot.
