Location City -  Pompeii
State -
Country - Italy   Italy
About The Garden of the Fugitives is one of the most haunting aspects of this great city. the ash fell and settled so quickly that people were literally 'frozen' in time. When Pompeii was being excavated and they realised that these pockets of air were in fact cavities created by rotten corpses, historians decided to use these holes as moulds. The garden of the fugitives contains around 17 casts of people who were trying to flee the devastation. There are women, arms stretched forward to stop the gas. Others have their mouths open, protecting their children but the ash was too quick. It is terrifying to see the anguish of the victims in their last seconds of life. The picture might not be clear cos its thro glass door and very dirty one i did my best to get the best out of it and not to cry ..its amazing

A very dramatic shot. I like the monochromatic feeling of the death and the somber shadows upon this body. Very nice lightning and crop.

All the best.

Very amazing. Incredible intensity. I have read a lot about Pompeii. I would love to visit one day. This is just one more reason.

Karman,

You have overcome the glass perfectly. This is dead on regarding the detail my friend. (No pun intended)...

I have never heard of this tragedy before. I must do some research on this horrific event... How very sad regarding the stupidity of humanity... It only solidifies my feelings, that time is very short and it's going to come soon...

Well done indeed,

Martin

Excellent image of a very tragic moment in time. You did very good with the conditions you had to shoot in and the effort is near perfect. Thanks for sharing this bit of history.
Dwight
