About Like a little life guard . . . this sea gull seemed to be standing over the sea lions as a self-appointed lifeguard . . . the sea lions and he are protected at Pier 39 on Fisherman's Wharf.

I like this one Doyle. The little glimmers of the water and the OOF sea lions in the BG are lovely with the light. Perhaps should have been called 'Gull's toilet" tho...LOL
Nice shot;) R

Doyle :)
A sharpness appeals to me in the foreground and washing away the background. Great composition. Cordialities:)

Love the lighting and the wood! So fresh and so uplifting. Great birdie!

Shirley D. Cross   {K:141681} 9/22/2006
Classically lovely photo of the gull, Doyle!

Robin Wickenkamp   {K:16434} 9/22/2006
Sparkle...say that a couple of times, becomes very funny after 4 or 5! Perfect dof and composition Doyle. I'm starting to feel I went to S.F. also, thanks for that, seriously!...I've never been there!

Ciao, Ale

Overall I like this. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more sharpness in the gull's head, and to have somehow moved that post out of the way in the background.

cheers,

Jon

Great shot of this Gull Guard !!!
Good detail, and positioning ... I Really like this part.
I like the composition, but also like the Gulls position from the back... a bit different POV
The DOF is particularly contributing with the sun sparkles from the bay... I love this one, and I love seagulls!

Best wishes,
Michele~

Well now Rebecca . . . aren't you being cute?? Gotta say, though . . . the title "Gull's Toilet" just doesn't sound . . . uhhhhh . . . I dunno, SANE? LoL! Then again, it would probably have gotten a LOT more views with such a title, who knows? :) Hehehehee . . . how about "Sea Lions . . . . . . . for me to POOOOP on!"

Thanks for your comment (I quite enjoyed it) . . . I'll think of something more title-appropriate but bizarre for a future shot just to see how it affects the number of people viewing it!! ;)

Hey Robin . . . the magic word - Sparkle. I'm a guy and, therefore, easily distracted by shiny, sparkly things. Never tried saying it repetitively before. I got one for you though . . . try say "Gull" five times and I swear you'll start to here it in Goofy's voice! (Or maybe it's just me?) Garsh! :) Always welcome Robin!

Thanks Alessandro . . . I saw that pic before (and even commented on it on the 8th). Appreciate the comment.

Hey Jon . . . I'm with you about the post but really, except PS cloning nothing to be done. They anchor the sea lion floats. The bird is one and they surround the place. With you on the head too . . . :)

Thanks Michele . . . I assume you read the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull then? :)

Yep ! Affirmative....

Carlen Schmidt   {K:7061} 9/23/2006
Hey Doyle,
I like your DOF in this photo. I just wish the seagull was sharper and not slightly overexposed. Just my 2 cents.

Hanggan Situmorang   {K:37824} 9/23/2006
Very good lighting and moment captured here, Doyle. The pole "blocking" her view might be a little distracting, in my humble opinion :)

vanessa shakesheff   {K:63813} 9/23/2006
Love the sparkling water and sunlight ..a lovely relaxing image with good light and dof ..nessa

Oooooooh! And it was the distant pole I was trying to shoot!! Heheheheheee . . . just kidding! Can't help the pole Hanggan . . . they surround the scene . . . including the one the gull is on. Can't really clone it either . . . it would be obvious . . . even with consummate skill . . . to any who had been at the spot. But thanks for the comment . . . I very much enjoy hearing from you.

louis Michael   {K:3117} 9/26/2006
This has great composition sharp detail on the subject against a soft background. The photo is beautiful
Thank you for your review and comment of my ocean scene. You are correct. I tried to deal with the halo outline before I entered it only to scarifies something else. I suppose more work should have been done with it.Thanks again.

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 10/2/2006
Thanks very much Louis! :)
