About Daughter-in-law, Kim, picked up this little guy and let it rest on her fingers so I could take a few photos. Thanks Kim. I had never seen a locus up close before - just heard them "sing".

These are fascinating creatures. We were over run by them a couple of years back, we were deafened for months. The children at our child care centre brought hundreds in each day, so we did a whole unit of work on them. They don't live very long after they hatch. This is a particularly clear photograph of what we in Australia call Cicadas. Well done. CC

Could you have a least cleaned my fingernails before you posted this? Ha Ha! Great clarity on the fuzz & the bug.

Yikes! Kim is a lot braver here than I would be. Great close-up of this locus and the detail is amazing.

Jan, what a fabulous close-up. Great colors and details. I never saw one this close up before and never realized their wings were so transluscent.

How beautiful it is! I have also only heard them sing at night. Thanks for sharing:-)

Wonderful clear shot of this locus, I like how he is so out of his element. Alison

Thanks Alison - I had never seen a live one - just heard them and just seen the shells. It was so nice of one of my daughter's-in-law to pick this up so that I could get a shot. Jan
