Wow happy landing I almost feel like shouting at this pelican. What an awesome image! It´s so clear although there´s some distnace to the pelican and the background is pleasantly blurry. A really good photo.
Best wishes,
Annemette

Spot on capture Doyle!

I Love the freeze frame action of the peli! just enough detail in the BG to tell whats going on and not so much that it becomes a distraction!

Well Done my friend.

Best Regards

Sam III

Riny de Rashed die ik gehade zo vele fantastische foto's wist. Mooie zonsondergangen en strand schoten. Latere schitterende portretten. Altijd mooie woorden voor mij. Hij zal gemist worden.

Well, hello there old friend! I've been so busy I haven't had any time to comment this week!

This is a lovely shot. Did you do anything to the background or was it a little misty that day? I love the bold colors of the bird against the washed out background. Great capture!

Shirley D. Cross   {K:143156} 10/12/2006
Boy, after being gone for a few days, it's hard to catch up with everyone. Wonderful catch again, dear Doyle!:)

Khaled Mursi Hammoud   {K:52604} 10/12/2006
A very good full zoom catch Doyle... the DOF is perfect.
Regards,
Khaled.

Hanna Segal   {K:13469} 10/12/2006
You really have a way with birds and animals. Again a great capture. The pelican seems suspended in mid-air and he looks so crisp and well-defined against the background. Is that a feather faling off his right wing?

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99842} 10/12/2006
Thanks very much Marian!! :)

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99842} 10/12/2006
Welcome back Dear Sheila . . . :)

Yes . . . I did isolate the pelican and fade / fog the BG to make it pop a tad bit more. The hazy sky in the original shot (see attached) gave me the idea and I thought cutting down the BG distraction would help the overall image. Really a simple step after Isolating the pelican on his own layer. Marlyce didn't like it at all (she's a bit of a purist on thses matters) . . . but I feel the image still conveys the scene as it was . . . though with a distinct accent on what I want the viewer to be seeing!

Thanks for your comment! :)

Doyle I <~~~~~

Thanks Hanna!
Wow . . . a good eye you have. The feather is only bent during the downstroke by airpressure . . . it's still attached (I have a series of shots of this guy). The angle makes it appear almost separated. Appreciate your comment!! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Shirley D. Cross   {K:143156} 10/12/2006
You're welcome, dear Doyle! Yes, things are going well at the moment...

Marcus Armani   {K:35759} 10/13/2006
Hi Doyle, this is a wonderful scene, the very well exposed pelican against the slightly hazy bay looks very appealing, very nice composition! excellent..

Thanks very much Galal!! :)

Joggie van Staden   {K:41275} 10/15/2006
Excellent image Doyle. Great perception of depth due to the sharp pelican and the blurry background. Great work!
Joggie
(I'm curious about the horisontal banding in the sky - any explanation?)

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99842} 10/16/2006
Hey Joggie . . . Thanks very much! I did some checking about the banding as I felt it might be due to compression. It turns out that adding a gradient . . . which is pure and has no grain . . . over the natural shot in PS editing . . . will add banding unless grain is added (a small amount . . . say 1 or 2) . . . and I suspect THIS is the cause. The original has a great screen view . . . so adding the minute amount of monochromatic grain ended the issue for me. Naturally, hindsight is 20/20.

Thanks for the comments though!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~
