About This is the second in my series with the LensBaby2.0 that I have on loan.

As I said in my last image, the effect is much softer than expected, and you need fingers of a heart surgeon to focus, and keep the camera stable.

The result, sometimes, is amazingly like that of a painting..well, when you use the two macro lenses on top of each other.. DOF gets shallow, and your chances of snapping impressionist art is great than bringing home a photograph in focus. :)

These little flower pods are about the size of the date on your watch, and I was just about touching the lens to the pod. Crazy.

Joel--this one is my fav of the three, probably because of the color and subject-- and less abstract. Lensbaby or not, qualifies as a top quality macro. Like the composition you used.

I think this is a really amazing capture. Lens babies can produce some stunning results
Not easy to shoot these minuscule flower pods.
You did a great job here. Fantastic colours and effects. A favorite!!!!

Awesome...
I wasn't sure if I wanted to purchase a lensbaby... after looking at your shots...
I think I might be in the market for one.
What are they like?

Thanks pops!

All it took was a little (lot) of wine, and an interesting subject. The typewriter was not cool anymore, when viewed with the lensbaby.
In all, I shot about 300 images last night, and tossed away about 280. The lens makeup of the lensbaby is good, but still can't touch the optics of a full lens. But still... freakin awesom results for a $200 macro that gets you into the subject closer than you've ever been! ..and you can't beat that DOF if you can keep your hand steady.

Thanks for the comments!! :)

off to pickup a 4gig card :)

panos,

thanks so much for the comments!

it's a pretty difficult lens to get use to. Have a look at my other images, andin the notes, i gave a quick low-down on my time so far with it.

Overall.. fun, but a one trick pony!

cheers!

After seeing these macro shots last week, this sunday I tried to recreate these shots myself. I don't have the lensbaby, but used a tube extension on my 17-85mm and 28-300 for macro. I didn't even come close to your depth, focus, lighting, etc, etc!!!! ;-)

You are a magician.

Joel Aron   {K:14920} 10/23/2006
Howdy Alex,
would love to see your macro shots! I was (and still am from time to time...depending on how much wine i've had) so addicted to macro's...so can appreciate others views into the tiny world.

thank you so much for the super nice comments buddy!

I've gotta swing into work this week, so i'll check w/ Fred, and let you borrow the lensbaby2.0. it's rpetty awesome... gonna have to get one. i'm sold. ....you're gonna love it.

I see you won BIP w/ 'early snow'. dude.. that's awesome! *you* are the master of those massive vista shots with detail! I can feel the weather in that one.. but I better save my comments for the picture.

cheers,
-joel

I probably like this one most of the three, and the way the border is partly blending into the image. Wonderful composition, colours & DoF ... intriguing work, Joel!

Joel Aron   {K:14920} 11/9/2006
Thank you very much Elisa!

...even more so for having a look at all of these in the series! appreciate your comments very much!
