this is one of the best underwater photos I have seen...excellent detail, good color and clarity...especially the clarity...I would have expected it to show more motion...you're right about the eye contact...it' is the most dynamic part of the image...a real keeper...

Jim? I'm confused! What'd you use to scan this? The contrast is spot-on.

Great shot. Well composed and lit. Your model looks like a pro underwater, particularly wearing the ole' high volume masks and not wearing wetsuit as many of them do.

Professional quality - could **easily** be in Skin Diver or Scuba Diving.

Melissa, This was scanned professionally, by a photo shop in Grand cayman. I have no idea what scanner they used. For my scans I used a pacific Imager scanner, and it is truly not up to snuff. I will e-mail you tomorrow with some details. Thanks for all of your help. Regards, Jim

Very nice shooting. Nicely composed under extreme conditions. Good work!

Hi Jim

Thanks for sending me to have a look at this image.

My image of "Diver & Blue Groper" is definitely not a parrot fish, although a close relative, the wrasse. Its correctly called an Eastern Blue Wrasse, but commonly known as a Blue Groper in Australia.

Re. your shot, this is a lovely composition, with good leading lines, and good left to right reading in the shot. The exposure is good, and the eye contact superb.

I suspect that the original had some backscatter - the curse of uw photography. I've started using dual strobes and "edge-lighting" subjects by pointing the strobes straight forward. This certainly seems to work in reducing the curse.

great capture
How did she get so close to this Grouper is it?

Hugo Pierre   {K:15692} 8/27/2003
Great! Taken at the decisive moment. Congratulations!
