About Erythrina zeyheri, commonly known as "Plough breaker" due to the extensive and hardy underground stems and root system. These plants were often the cause of broken ploughs (before today's monster big implements). The above ground parts often die down totally (because of fire, frost or drought) only to emerge in early spring and burst forth in an impressive display of red blooms 300 to 500mm above ground.

Thanks Marian - a small mistake, I used the old 4 megapixel Coolpix 4500 (the swivel camera). Early morning, overcast on my way to a site visit for my work (their camera).

First of all, the picture. I like very much the running of the red stream till the opposite right up corner crossing through the well matching green grasses. Then your warm way of sharing images and informations of great interest about the whole nature: I appreciate it very very much, Joggie.
Comparing to my recently uploaded flower of the same family (http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1216311) it was a different variety called Erythrina crista-galli that comes from Brazil.
Thanks for sharing, Joggie.
Take care.

Giuseppe

Mooie,

Pragtige kleure en 'n interresante storie. Die ou boere was darem maar kreatief as dit kom by name uitdink. Laat wee as oom weer dalk perongeluk hier deur Bloem kom.

Groete,
Stef

Dankie Stef, gewoonlik vlieg ek daar oor julle verby maar as ek ry sal ek beslis daar stop. Julle het dalk 'n opvolg wittebrood nodig in hierdie geweste - lyk my jy het al die mooiste plekke gemis! Groete!
