About While losing light rapidly, I snapped a few shots from a moving car window, past a tornado ravaged stretch of land, near Combermere Ontario.

Looks like what it might have been during the tornado, Andre! We had a similar situation here that I passed during the summer. It really shows the power of Mother Nature!
Dave.

Thanks again Dave,
I can only imagine what it must have been like to have been there during the storm. Most of us were truely awestruck seeing the damage done, and relieved to see that no significant damage was done to our lot or our neighbours.

I like the first post better as it consisted of just the one tree but in this one the foliage makes more of an impact. Another great photographic opportunity well taken my good friend and a great blurry nature abstract. Best wishes Andre, take care, 'see' you soon.....Ray:)

Andre Denis   {K:56482} 12/4/2006
Hi again Ray,
I knew I was bordering on being pretentious with these two images. But I figured, what the heck, I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. It's just an internet forum, not the Museum of Modern Art :)
I tried to get the two of them to have similar qualities in terms of the colour and effect, just to make a set out of them.

Hehe. I call it Luxagraphia:

Hi Andre, it takes a lot of - skills - to pull off a shot while driving. :)

While the effects of the tornado are not apparent from this shot, it would certainly be a strong supportive addition to a related photojournalism series. The patterns in nature here really catch my eye. Something mysterious about it also..

Hi Kes,
Many would say that it doesn't take a lot of skill to take a shot like this while driving... Kind of point and shoot, and see what comes out:)

Anyway, I was a passenger at the time. Those little short wheelbase Jeeps with the big tires sure do have a bumpy ride :)

The blur effect is mostly because of the lower light conditions and not being able to freeze the scene. I do have some clear shots of the damage, but for some reason, I chose to post these stylized versions.

But, I think you are right, they probably should be used in a supportive role to some images that clearly show the damage. I'm thinking that they would be more effective that way now. This way, if someone were to not read the "about" the images would probably be seen as some kind of abstract without much of a story.
Oh well, live and learn.
Andre

Hi James,

Your portfolio description of "Luxagraphia" explains exactly what I was trying to do :)

I like this kind of thing. I've seen most of your images. Maybe there was a little influence :)
Allthough I have done some things like this many years ago too.
Not exactly the same thing, but I'll never forget the thrill of getting a nice panned image of a race car.

I've got to get some of my old slides out and scan them. :)

We have had this conversation before I believe? Deja vu?

Andre

Kes     {K:18401} 12/6/2006
...well, Andre, "chaos in nature" is certainly apparent in both of these shots! Therefore; Success!

I like them both...
Kes

Andre Denis   {K:56482} 12/7/2006
Thanks for the support Kes.
I seem to be leaning more towards liking this one a bit more now, for reasons I can't put my finger on.

Have we? Possible. I have a hard time remembering yesterday.

I keep meaning to dig up my first luxagraphic shot. Like yours, it was shot out of a moving car at some woods. My shutter time was faster (than this one) I think, and the brush strokes were more multidirectional. So many boxes...

Andre Denis   {K:56482} 12/7/2006
Hi again James,

Yeah, you commented on one of my images of some river grass flowing under some gentle waves... "River Secrets / Mermaids Hair" http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1184292
Then, I went to your portfolio and found a similar shot of yours.
Andre

James Cook   {K:36728} 12/7/2006
Oh, yeah. I remember that shot. Great stuff. Hehe. Oops.
