Very nice vincent, but there's something missing.... have you tried increasing the colour saturation? :-P really though, I like it, but think its a bit dark overall. H:)

Vincent,
I can't believe it! no velvia, no colors, no chickens, and no goats! The water is great, the clouds are wonderful. Great contrast and tones, Throw that nasty ol color stuff away and lets see you artistic abilities. By the way, how are those arms coming? Jordan says "hey" from Kuwait City
Aloha my friend,
Russ

Thanks for the feedback and SOME of your comments. (My girly arms are looking like massive tree trunks that barely fit in my clothes anymore. Arnold who??)....thanks for asking! And yes Sue I am starting to get used to the site. Dizzying though!
Now, from what I hear, possibly a bit more color, I mean brightness (funny Heather) would help this. Okay, I can now see that as well. I have very little experience with any black and white other than here. I need to know what is the absolute best BW film for landscapes. Do they make BW slides?? Is C-41 better for BW?? I know, probably better to find a forum, but easier if somebody just tells me. Thanks for the feedback. Russ, can we get another goat post....sure miss em. Glad to hear your son says hi!.... Aloha.

Vincent, your black and white work is amazing. I agree this is a bit dark, but only certain elements in the foreground; don't touch the sky. This photo is like a symphony waiting to begin.

A black and white? Are you ill? This works so well. Great tones. Can't wait to see more of your stuff in b&w.
As for black and white film, Agfa makes a b&w slide film, Scala, however not many places can process it. Don't use any of the b&w stuff that can be processed C41. It isn't the same. My fav is Kodak TMax 100 but I've heard good things about TriX and I'm going to try some soon.
You're making me jealous with the surf shots. I need to move. ;)
Btw, which island are you on?

Vince, what happened to your portfolio?? Starting over? All those shots of yours that I had as faves are no longer.
The B&W is nice here, but your signature is bright and bold and my mind's eye can see the colour bursting in this shot. Still... would love to see more B&W from you, just maybe not sunset shots!

Thanks Kim. With all the changes, I did not like how the borders looked, nor how many lost a fair measure of sharpness. I will re-load them all eventually. Was hard to delete those two you know whats.....

I agree with the very first part of Sean's statement about being ill. Have you been numerously bitten by all the mosquitoes on the edge of the sugar cane fields by the ocean on Kauaui? ... LOL!
Seriously though ... the 'Fishing Pole Sunset' Version of this I fell in love with and still do, but I don't think this works at least with this frame or 'Presentation Border' as we will call it.
You've taken a hell of a chance with this conversion and so did I per the attached, so I think we are both losing it ... maybe!
Best of Regards!

I'm back Vince,
... Because I think I was perhaps a bit too blunt with my humour and I should have plugged the attached instead of one of my own to make multiple points.
Please tell me what you think of this border instead replacing your own for actual real framing purposes. I think it has much more of a 'B&W Gallery' feel to it concentrating on the actual piece of work itself besides being possibly more practical in real life.
I mean ... you normally wouldn't use Black Matte AND a Black Metallic Frame or otherwise ... would you or anyone to mount on one's wall? That I think is your main concern here ... NOT the image itself which really is just fine by the concensus so far of which I am included.
As for B&W Films in 'Landscape' use:
I think that greatly depends on whether there are 'Rock Formations' for example in the scenery such as my Yosemite images where I used Kodak Portra 400 BW with the MF Fuji 645Zi Pro, but still using a Polarizer & UV Protector believe it or not, whereas you might try an ILFORD 100 with very low grain while using your Nikon 35mm.
I hope I have helped you somewhat with both issues!
Regards 'Braddah'!

Thanks Sunset man! I definitely like it better than the black. Often your style is a bit more bold than mine. But here, it is just perfect!! Thanks for taking the time and giving me that idea. I will use it for sure....aloha!

This one could easily have been the most interesting photo in your portfolio. The problems that I see with this shot are: a) The surfer is not sharp enough (did you focus in infinity on this shot?) b) I would bring surfer slightly out of the dark area and onto the wet sand, just one step. c) Dodging and burning is essential to B&W photo process. There is simply no other tool to use to highlight or hide details, unless you can utilize 100% the properties of the film (which means shooting each photo using different film). Dodging the wave breaking on the sand in mid-foreground would produce a great result.
Hope you have not abandoned b&w after this shot. c:6;l:4;or:4;ea:5;ov:5

Hi, Vincent! i picked this one because all that color was making me dizzy..this is a very good composition..you obviously know your wave patterns, i have such a tough time with beaches, they are simply so b-i-g! i agree your surfer is a little soft and since he's the object of this photo, he should be pretty crisp..The sky and lighting are really conducive to black and white..and wow, the surfer's head isn't on backwards, cool! :)) kat~
