About Turkmen guards in Ashghabat, capital of Turkmenistan.

Saparmurat Niyazov, "Leader of all Turkmens", died yesterday, leaving a resource rich Central Asian country in abject poverty, fear and ruins.

Image taken in 2004. Taken discretely: the bringing of cameras into the country and their use around town was not encouraged.

Good capture; every time I see the military goose step being executed I think of Monty Python and "The Ministry of Funny Walks"!

Yeah, there is much concern about what now befalls Turkmenistan, besides returning calendar names to their pre-egomaniacal designations.

For me so extremely exotic, nicely captured the shadow are. I would like the change the levels and make it less bluish...

i knew i had commented on some of your photos in the past but i couldnt remember them for some reason. once i saw the statue of turkmenbashi (and this one), it came back to me. few people have been to turkmenistan taking photos. good shot of something many people dont get to see.
