About Toronto-Dominion Centre - black office towers, late 60's; architect: Mies van der Rohe.
Taken around 5 AM. As I was composing my 3rd shot, a security guard came out and asked me for a permit for professional photographers. I said I was an amateur, but he said that I was a pro "because I had a tripod." I was told this was a private property (?!) and I couldn't take pics without a permit from the plaza's concrete platform, only from the sidewalk, which is 6 ft below, and cuts the view of the buildings. So this is all I've got :)

Fantastic perspective Ina, and a perfect exposure!!!! Many congratulations to you!!!
Leo

ps: I think will be better in the "Night Photography" project...

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/4/2007
Thanks Leonardo, I'll move it to "Night Photography" - I'm not a night photographer, and if you read my story I didn't have much time to take pictures, as I was chased away by security :)

Gorilla  K   {K:17526} 1/4/2007
very beautiful night photo and great point of view...particularly i like(fall) the trees with theirs a lot of lights well!!!
good done, ina!

lg,
winfried

Lucky you ... this is all you need, Ina :) What a moody night shot; very special with all those lights! So nicely composed ... *hugs*

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/4/2007
Hi Elisa, night photography is not my cup of tea: tripod, exposure, being out there at late or early hours. I was a bit scared by the security guard, plus it's an eerie feeling to be there with nobody on the street, only the homeless... Hugs :) Ina

Dave Stacey   {K:117108} 1/4/2007
Very nicely composed, Ina! I'm glad you were able to get this before getting kicked out! At least now we know what constitutes a "pro"!
Dave.

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/4/2007
Hi Dave, the tripod is a the hallmark of a pro... well at least I got away with this shot. The guy was very nice though, he was only doing his job. Now if I go again during the day, that will make me a repeat offender?

Petal Wijnen   {K:47835} 1/4/2007
The very same thing happened to me in NYC in front of the Lincoln Center... LOL!! But I got my shot before he noticed me and even without tripod (I lugged it al the way there so I had to use it... even if it was only once... ;-D) they were OK. But by the look of things the move you had to make was a blessing in disguise, for now you've got a super POV/angle... love all the lights, great composition... well done!!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 1/4/2007
Fascinating 'about' section Ina . . . I had a similar experience shooting on an elevated train platform for the blurry image project. Get this, I was in Uniform, badge, captain's bars . . . the whole nine yards . . . and then was approached by two County deputies who advised me I could take all the pictures I'd like (Sir) but could NOT use the tripod! Makes little sense to me and, of course, handheld eliminates quality work for slow shutter speeds. And . . . somehow . . . I don't feel any safer! LoL! This is a cool shot . . . I'd love to get at it with my fish-eye lens!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~~

Ina, you've got a lot, I do not know how better it would look from the platform but the one here has great perspective angle and nice effect integrating lines of lights from buildings and seasonal tree decoration inti impressive form. Interesting happening but I'm not realy clear on a motivation for the restrictions.
Congrats on BIP,
Cheers, NJ

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/5/2007
Thanks for the congratulations! (doing happy dance)

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/5/2007
Thank you Jeanette, that is a very poetic description! I was looking for a cluster of skyscrapers with many lit windows to shoot, but most lights were turned off - I think everybody is saving energy nowadays and so this was one area with some obvious light :) Ina

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/5/2007
Hi Robert, thanks & Happy 2007! Ina

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/5/2007
Thanks Andrzej, what a nice way to end the week! I don't know my way around TO 7 I was looking for some skyscrapers with lots of bright windows, but most were fairly dark at 5 AM (conserving energy), certainly not the way I imagined. I see the downtown from my balcony - it's 20kms away, and it looks very bright from a distance, but once you get there, it's a different story. This was one ofthe more obvious places :)

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/5/2007
Petal, you had the same experience :-)
I had no idea that you couldn't take pictures of famous places from the OUTSIDE? In NY? wow!

Gorilla  K   {K:17526} 1/5/2007

Mark Longo   {K:12757} 1/9/2007
Once again, fantastic urban geometry! There is a glowing translucent quality to the tree decorated tress that you have captured beautifully and in beautiful counter point to the geometric buildings. Very lovely. Funny story too! And I thought you were a professional! ;-)

Very best,
Mark

Tony Diana   {K:13396} 1/9/2007
Felicidades por el premio, un saludo, magnífica

Andre Denis   {K:56377} 1/9/2007
Hi Ina,
Sorry I'm a bit late getting to these shots.

Congrats on the award for this one!

A beautiful night shot that you had to go through a bit of a struggle to get! What a shame about all the security party poopers around now a days. They would probably let you walk around with a rocket launcher on the sidewalk and wouldn't recognize it. But whatever you do, don't set up a tripod :)
Andre

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 1/10/2007
Thanks very much Andre, I'm sure you can appreciate what a nonsense this is. There are millions of people there during the day, it was perhaps more unusual to see someone taking pictures at 5 AM. I read that you also need a permit to photograph anything on TTC property too, so there goes my future subway pictures :(

Andre Denis   {K:56377} 1/10/2007
Exactly,
There was a time when we didn't have to worry about that sort of thing at all. I still take my camera everywhere anyway. If someone wants to complain... too bad!
I did this over 30 years ago.
