Welcome back Hugo!
I can relate to your absence! At least you and I both have our accomplishments to look back on this last year!

I love this photo! It's a strong return from you. The balance of color, while almost Rothko, hold the image together as if twined into the trees.

very well done!

cheers, and hope all is well!

My Friend, This is a very awesome image that hold true to the Hugo form that we come to expect. There is a perfect balance between light and dark and the fog brings the entire shot together.

Congrats and welcome back.

My best Regards

Sam Graziano III

Hello Hugo, this is a nice nature image you have here, with many interesting elements.

I like the colour gradient in the sky, especially near the horizon, as it transitions from a warm orange into a cooler blue in the upper portion. There are also some interesting patterns in the low part of the sky.

I think the softness present in the foreground of this photo make the three dominant tree silhouettes seem a bit crisper and sharper than they actually are, in comparison. This, to my eye, makes for a better image.

Finally, good choice of crop. I like the square proportion for this picture. More sky or more terre in the foreground would not help this image at all.

Bye 4 now,
J.

Hi Hugo, no problem with your absence, I was not on Use for a few months myself, busy with work also.
What a moody shot you've posted here, I really love the colours and silhouettes in this image.
Hope to see some more of you soon.
Take care, and take it easy with work, you have to think about your health too.
All the best for 2007,

Klaas

Hugo, I've seen some awesome work in your portfolio from my long absence... in particular Death Valley, The Elements, and the Muerte Series. That in particular requires serious thought. Also, the title of this incipient series invites reflection, beyond what is seen. But I'll hold my thoughts until I see the upcoming pictures. Meanwhile, subtle mood, I love the squiggly calligraphic tree lines rising through the lifting fog & soft colors :) Ina

Good to see ya back! Wonderful colours, lovely moody atmosphere.

Joggie van Staden   {K:38530} 1/9/2007
Superb image of an awesome scene Hugo! It is most often the time of day which sets a landscape apart from most other shots of the same place. lovely atmosphere displayed in a well composed setting here. Great work.
Joggie.
A prosperous 2007 for you and your loved ones!

Dear Hugo..
Everyone missed you very much.. - photography and comments - but I can see what optimum turned out now gave this landscape.
The foggy emphasizes very much the charge, the effect and the atmosphere of the moment.
Right the beautiful silhouette and a light contrast what does not change the delicacy of the landscape itself.
I think that a clearer unsharp mask would have still created the white line on the borders and the creation of an image more cold.. instead I find a delicate balance between the hot tones of the sky heated by the sun and the blue colors.
Well done.. hope you are fine my friend..
Cheers

Hugo -- Great colors! Love the simplicity of composition, too. The mist really works well here, both as a compositional element and as a visual simplifier. Great work, and nice site at awesome-earth.

Cheers,
-Mike.

Sorry it took so long to comment, I've been browsing through the web site for a while.

A significant effort, and I really enjoyed the google earth integration.

very nice landscape... I can't decide if I wish the trees were sharper or not. Being soft gives it a nice mood but at the same time my eyes keep keying on the softness of the branches. the mist and lighting are excellent... great work

Walter Scarella   {K:16664} 1/13/2007

Thilo Bayer   {K:50301} 1/15/2007
Hi Hugo,

the image is well composed and gets some extra spice with the colors and the misty fog. The trees seem to try to make their way thru the foggy atmosphere.

Good work! Happy 2007.

Thilo

Whenever I look at a photo that I can *smell*, I am awed. This brings to my mind all the smells and sounds that I know when we are camping and wake up to a misty dawn. Thanks for your continued excellence. Cheers, Brenda

Very good mood in this excellent landscape. Regards

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99049} 2/1/2007
Lovely work Hugo . . . the color in the layer of mist that reflects and echoes the colors higher in the sky really (IMO) make this shot sing! The warming central colors make a wonderful diversion to accent the cooler blues and the silhouetted plants of various heights seem to have grown into place while waiting for a good photographer to see them. I would have guessed a ND graduated filter for this shot but don't see it listed. The framing and presentation accent the image without overwhelming it too.

Nicely done my friend . . . and welcome back!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

The fog really 'makes' this image, it creates a number of different layers which makes it interesting, well done! I see that this location must be close to where I live, I will definitively have a look there, in the near future!

Tim  Schumm   {K:26370} 2/20/2007
Hi Hugo,
just thought i would drop by and check up on Usefilms most prolific critic and see if you have been posting some fabulous images. You leave me wanting, but then all in good time. Remember that everybody needs some play time. And at the end of life those that worked the most do not get a star! In fact you may have to come back and do it all over again!
That aside this is a super image with so many levels of interest that looking upon it for a few minutes still leaves me intrigued. The world is in desperate need of more beauty like this

See you soon i hope.

Cheers,
Tim

Hugo de Wolf   {K:184670} 3/14/2007
Hi Tim,

Thanks... This is what I referred to in my comment to you; the incentive I needed. Time, however is (and will be) a luxury; the workload - photographically - is huge, but I'm enjoying every minute of it...

The best part of it is, that this allows all of us a glimpse on how beautiful the world actually can be - and not only in ntaure, but in all aspects thereof. This being typically Dutch, the world in your part of the world is probably as fascinating, if not then more so; the challenge is to remain open and perceptive to that beauty. And its at these quiet early mornings that even the most familiar spots on earth regain their amazing beauty; making me forget everything else that's going on...

Cheers,

hugo

Cheers,

This is a tough shot to decide whether you just want silohuette or if you want detail in the shadows. Although its a little muddy here at 400k jpg I'm sure you have some nice stuff in the dark areas to look at. Great tones and a bit like those paintings that are just colors, or shades of colors...

Nice gradient to the sky, very calming to look at... thanks for sharing

Here's to sleepless nights Hugo, congrats on the awesome earth site. Glad to see the rest of the reflections on death. Such a worthy project to contribute to, that book.
All the variations in the borrom third given some meditative space on top, I think. Like the details suggested in the dark.
