Hi Nick, I think you got the DOF a little better in the other version. There isn't much difference, but enough to make the other one more appealing. Colour and exposure are both equally as good.

Thanks a lot for turning my attention to DoF, Denis! Actually I should already have thought about that, when Annemette talked about the "woman" that she "sees" on the thumb - it is the result of more DoF. But now I see that clearly.

Hmm, I answered too quickly, saying that the DoF of the other had to do with the "woman" that Annemette "saw" on the thumb. It is rather that the angle is such that more background is visible, but the DoF is not the reason for this.
