Thanks for the opportunity!

Robert Chin   {K:20363} 1/21/2007
Glad to see you experimenting Michele, that`s the key to learning. You might want to shoot at a smaller aperture to get both birds in focus.I won`t knit pick but your improved images are screaming for a better software than Picassa 2
if your computer can handle it.
Good to see you expanding your range, next assignment inflight capture.I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Take care
Robbie

Riny Koopman   {K:61155} 1/21/2007
The detail is superb and light excellent... Am totally amazed by the beauty that you capture...

Jan Hoffman   {K:39373} 1/21/2007
Michele - Excellent!!!! This is the best yet (I think) from your new camera. It is a big and noticeable improvement by NOT using the sharpening tool you have at hand. Slight sharpening can be OK but this one is totally free of artifacts and shows what the camera can really do. If you choose to sharpen at some later date you need to use something superior to the tool you previously used.
Wonderful and congratulations - you are getting in the groove.
This is an excellent capture and I love the selective depth of field and the emphasis on the lead bird.
--Best to you, Jan

Annemette Rosenborg Eriksen   {K:55404} 1/21/2007
Cute fellows that are indeed always looking for food:-) Good clarity. A pity that you couldnīt make them pose having only sky behind them, but wildlife just wonīt act the way we photographers expect of them:-)
Take care
Annemette

You have aced it, my sweet and lovley young lady... AAAAAhhhhhh! You have it now... ;)

Your file size is "Awesome" @ 850 x 784 and the DOF is spot on... I knew you could do it girl... "YES" !!!

This is by far "Your Best Post Ever"... ;) 20 +++

Well done and thank you for sharing,

Mary Slade   {K:40918} 1/21/2007
Beautiful capture- the colours and clarity wonderful. Can see such detail !

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99842} 1/22/2007
Wonderful focus and no sharpen is needed. Perfect DOF which makes the next Herring Gull less focused and the BG even less focused. This gull is like the Glacous Gull . . . but it has black on the primaries! (I'm an amateur bird-watcher too). The red on the beak is somewhat unique to our Pacific gulls of all types.

While there is a lot of good . . . the composition needs some work (IMO) since the feet are cut off and the left side crop is too close as well.

But - my friend - LOOK at the detail in the soft feathers! Perfect . . . and well exposed too. I love seeing your work Michele . . . something great about seeing artists grow and exceed - and you certainly are. Uhhhhhhhh . . . I'm thinking you KNEW about the crop issues already . . . but liked the shot. I've done that myself on ocassion.

Hi Robbie, Thanks for the comment and the next assignment (ha!)with soo much confidence ! I like it but bum news on the software addition. I do have PS already but not enough memory to use it. I also have Photo Filtre and I am also learning to use it. Are you familiar with it ? I thought piccasa was fine... until your comment...so I guess I don't really know what I am looking to do with this software? On this image I only adjusted contrast very slightly, and cropped .... Maybe I should've done more but I wanted to show how the image came from the camera as close as possible at least.
I know I need to keep on practicing with different settings for a long time maybe ... It does take time, right ? Well I think it does for me at least .
I appreciate your comments always Robbie let me know what you think about PhotoFiltre?
Thanks,
Michele~

John Hatz   {K:148425} 1/25/2007
I love these birds, here a nice composition between the foreground and background higher gull, I like as the second isn't into focus like the first one, that do the job. Perchaps the fist one could be also its feets into the frame but not big deal.

Michele Carlsen   {K:140604} 1/26/2007
Thank You Pradnya ... sorry for the delayed reply !!

Albert Jacobs   {K:9450} 2/4/2007
Hello Michele,

One of my favourite birds. Nice couple you show us here, and razorsharp with excellent DOF. You were really close, when I see the lens you used.
You placed the birds nice in the frame. The crop could be a little bit larger to show legs and tail of the first one (but that's subjective).
You frooze the right moments of their expressions.
Colours and POV are also excellent. Compliments, my friend !

Wish you and yours alle the best,
Albert Jacobs ;)

Michele Carlsen   {K:140604} 2/5/2007
Hi Albert,

You are absolutely right of course ..I was VERY Close to these gulls... I love them too they are very freindly and brave I think. Bummer I did miss the feet on the one in the foreground tho... Thank You so much for your TIME and Your kind comment my friend!!
-Best Wishes,
Michele~
