About This hawk was going down for prey, I caught him at full speed then lost him in the brush for a bit, he appeared again with no catch :(
Thanks for the comments, As I am still shooting the raptors and have more to come, with a shorebird inbetween.....

only critique? sharpness is at the top and the moment is perfect...

Andy Seehusen   {K:1890} 1/29/2007
Excellent Shot. Good focus on the bird. A little more panning might give it the blurred motion effect, but still a very impressive capture.

Andre Denis   {K:56069} 1/30/2007
Hi Marcus,
Congrats on the SC for this one! The trademark crispness is there along with the usual detail.
I didn't know these guys attacked head first? I thought they all just came down talons first and wings back. I suppose they have to start of comeing down fast like this first and then flip feet first for the kill? I never really thought about it.
Andre

Robert Chin   {K:20363} 1/30/2007
Congrats on the award Marcus, was expecting one.
Robbie

Andrew George   {K:632} 1/30/2007
This picture is absolutly stunning Marcus.
Questions: Do you use a tripod for your pictures and if so how do you manage to capture the subjects so perfectly?
WHat type of places do you go to to take the pictures?

Andrew

Marcus Armani   {K:35759} 1/30/2007
Thanks Andrew, I very rarely use a tripod for birds in flight I find in too restrecting, they are all handheld. I shoot typically at any hot spot I hear of in my area, when shooting birds, other photographers are you best tool, that and getting to know each species and there tendencies.
so for the most part I shoot raptors in nature preserves, grassy open spaces with trees and a reason for mice or rats to be there. shorebirds are typically shot in an area where the water, lake or stream etc.. is not to wide so getting close is not a problem. I also use other photographers for information and hot areas, and always share mine. If you want In depth settings and any other info feel free to email, you can find my info at www.armaniphotography.com ..

Roberto Arcari Farinetti   {K:179567} 1/31/2007
wooww marcus a super capture.. is above the prey..
really nice and really cool shot composed my friend!
sure the choice in horizontal cut have gave back the effect photography but more “reposed”.. does not seem a cruel action image.. I think that a vertical cut would have “killed” the natural beauty of “nature mother”.. it is only my opinion,
really great..

sure also i agree with the award..best congrats!!!
roby
