About I found this old image and thought I would post it as a tribute to Ina Nicolae and her wonderful portfolio of Toronto architecture. I realize this image doesn't come close to Ina's beautiful, creative images of Toronto's buildings.

Wow Joe! What a great dedication, I'm blushing :))) It's such a strong image! That's a superb Royal Bank Tower in all its purple glass & metal glory, complete with golden reflections! I love the juxtaposition of the older architecture with its stone and verdigris copper roof detail. Great color and great sky, I like the puffy steam coming out :) Awesome! To my favorites, and Thank you, hope to see more from you! Ina

Would that be the Royal York Hotel? That's an awesome building too, I haven't even been close to it in years. Wikipedia says that in 1929 when it was built, it was the tallest building in Toronto... and in the whole British Empire! wow!

Hi Ina,
Sorry I'm just getting around to responding now. I'm really glad you like my image. Thanks for providing the background info on the buildings. Yes, it is the Royal York Hotel. My wife and I spent the weekend there on our 30th wedding anniversary in '03, we went to the Rolling Stones concert at the Sky Dome, visited the ROM and Chinatown among other things, it was a fantastic weekend.

All the best,
Joe

Hi Joe, you guys really know how to enjoy life together and make the most of it :))) I stayed too at the Royal York on a couple of business trips, and enjoyed the interiors very much. I wasn't using my film camera in those days in the same way as I do now with digital. Which reminds me that I should go and document the inside of this hotel... if they'll let me. You never know these days, anything you do around buildings looks suspicious.
Did you know that the two Royal Bank towers combined have 14,000 windows which were made with 24 karat gold?
Thanks again, Ina

Joe Brown   {K:22242} 2/19/2007
The Royal York is gorgeous inside, it would be a good photo-op. No, I didn't know that about the Royal Bank towers, very interesting. I had dinner once years ago in a very nice restaurant in Royal Bank towers, I think I paid for a couple of those windows. :):):) Your a wealth if information. :) :) :)

All the best,
Joe

Ina Nicolae   {K:44481} 2/19/2007
I bet you did :))) The total value of the gold in those windows is a million bucks, and the gold somehow acts as a reflector for energy conservation, so it's not all vanity :) Just read this in Wikipedia :)
